it has been a fascinating ride @kireports so far - starting from scratch.. with more innovations in the pipeline as we try to improve how we benefit the #nephrology community worldwide - authors, reviewers, readers and most importantly ... our patients.
🔥KI Reports is excited to report our 2021 impact factor of 6.234! We would like to thank our readers, authors, editors and reviewers! We could not continue to grow and improve without your continued support

The failure to invest in the OPTN data or provide enough oversight or monitoring will hurt the field in the long term. #Transplant centers and OPOs are equally responsible for this registry and the failure to invest in this effort by everyone adversely impacts the entire field
Deceased donor terminal serum creatinine influences acceptance decisions as an indicator of donor kidney function. This study found inconsistencies in DonorNet & Deceased Donor Registration Form terminal creatinine values https://t.co/zghaxK9KdW

Thank you @nkf for the honor recognizing the work from my team and many collaborators. This was a really fun evening and humbling to be in the presence of so many folks who have done so much for #kidney disease.
Congratulations to @SumitMohanMD, recipient of the 2022 Excellence in Kidney Transplantation Award! This award recognizes those whose exceptional research has contributed novel insights to improved access to kidney transplantation. #NKFClinicals

In honor of #WorldKidneyDay today, the ISN has dressed the famous #MannekenPis with the colors of @WorldKidneyDay. Special thanks to the city of Brussels for helping us to raise awareness of the high burden of kidney disease worldwide.

Further evidence that the #transplant community needs to invest time and effort in to the OPTN registry if we want to maintain this valuable resource…. Not to mention getting UNOS to understand its value rather than treat it as an afterthought

another question - where is the UNOS organ center in the mix here? Is it part of the the out of sequence allocation?

what about centers who turned down these organs for their patients to begin with? Presumably they have driven OPOs to this process to the detriment of their patients

Large differences in the adjusted probability of deceased donor kidney transplantation persist under KAS, even between centers working with the same local organ supply. Probability of transplantation...

The role of the UNOS MPSC in approving/ignoring this phenomena is unclear to us but the impact on patients who are skipped over is clear and not a good one
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
This study found that transplant candidates appeared to receive a large number of viable deceased donor kidney offers that were refused on their behalf by transplant centers, potentially exacerbating...

This is a very select group of OPOs and transplant centers that are knowingly engaged in the process of skipping over the waitlist

The challenge with this process if it successfully results in a transplant? Does the end justify the means? For one it undercuts the allocation process in a process that receives an unclear amount of oversight but also highlights the dysfunction in the system

Out of sequence placement of deceased donor kidneys appear to be on the increase primarily because of a few OPOs and benefiting a tiny number of centers. This should concern everyone invested in the integrity of kidney allocation. https://t.co/5jwqY37CTo

Thanks for the invitation. The #ETCLC learning collaborative is poised to make a dramatic push to increase #kidney #transplantation rates is the US to the benefit of our patients.
An excellent discussion of the upcoming ESRD Treatment Choices Learning Collaborative (ETCLC) from @SumitMohanMD and Sara Eve Schaeffer with moderators Roy Bloom and @Mattcoopmd1 this week. Thank you @AST_info @AST_KPCOP Here are a few highlights:

Kidney doctor @SumitMohanMD noticed that his hospital performed way more transplants on weekends. Why? That question led to a bigger one: thousands of patients die on the kidney transplant list each year — could some of those deaths have been avoided?

“Dialysis has a survival rate that is lower than most cancers at the five-year mark. So transplant is really the life saving opportunity for individuals who have end stage kidney disease,” explains @SumitMohanMD. So why do we toss so many healthy kidneys?

and #transplant #organ #declines are NOT a predictor of organ quality... further evidence that declining an organ does not appear to be driven primarily by quality in many instances. https://t.co/80Vo0SVoNI

the high (and rising discard rate) also means that organs are turned down often and patients miss out on being transplanted.
