If sudden adversity, like a lost fumble, is the BOOM! Then sudden opportunity, like making an interception, is the BANG! and great coaches have a sudden offense ready to take advantage of sudden opportunity, the BANG!

Great coaches prepare "left of BOOM!" so they will prevail coaching "right of BOOM! What's the BOOM? It's a Sudden Change (high-risk, high-stress, time-compressed, fast-changing) event, a lost fumble, an interception, BOOM! suddenly you are coaching right of BOOM! Are you ready?

What do you project (not feel) during Sudden Change events? When a key player gets injured, do you project discouragement or encouragement, panic or calm? Your players are watching you. Great coaches are aware of what they project (no matter how they feel) when bad things happen.

Great coaches strive daily to build strength of character guided by our values and influenced by family, faith, friends, foes, and events. SUDDEN CHANGE, high-stress, high-risk, time-critical, fast-changing events reveal our true identity. How are you building character today?

Yesterday: "Great coaches don’t take a rep off, ever. ABC! Always be coaching!” Same for any great individual, husband, father, wife, mother. Life reps are as important as coaching reps. Show up for every rep in life! Don’t just stand there, be great!

Great coaches don’t ever take a rep off. ABC! Always Be Coaching! Every rep by every player in practice or film deserves to be corrected or confirmed and usually both. “Good job!” isn’t good enough. Be specific! Don’t stop coaching, ever! AAABC! Always Always Always Be Coaching!

Three generations of coaching. My dad coached at Altoona HS (PA) in the 50s. I coached at DeMatha Catholic for 20 years, and my son Matt played for me and coached the defensive line with me for 15 years at DeMatha.

"Preparation is Separation!" (Embry-Riddle Head Coach Steve Ridder). Coaches prepared for Sudden Change, time-critical, high-consequence events (turnovers, injuries, etc.) outperform coaches whose response is time- and focus-killing anger or elation. ABC: Always Be Coaching!.

Sudden Change Coaching means not folding under the pressure of high-risk, high-stress, time-compressed, fast-changing events: interceptions, fumbles, missed opportunities.
