My latest article on India's new EPR framework for non-ferrous metals.-75% recycling target by 2032-33 .-But only 10% recycled content for aluminum? .-Will formalization sideline informal sector?.Gap between policy rhetoric and impact needs examination. #CircularEconomy #EPR.

(25/25) This history is just a sequel. Just beside the Hangseshwari temple stands Ananta Basudev Temple built in 1679 by Rameswar Roy, great-grandfather of Nrisinghadev. This Vishnu temple is another gem of Bengal temple architecture. But that’s a story for another thread.

(24/25) Today, the Hangseshwari temple is more than just a place of worship. It is a living archive of loss and resilience — echoing with the cries of a dispossessed prince, the resolve of a widowed queen, and the shifting sanIds of colonial Bengal.

(23/25) In the 19th century, the temple also became a retreat for Ramakrishna Paramhansa — the mystic saint of Bengal — who visited it often, drawn by its Tantric resonance and spiritual energy.

(22/25) Alexander Chapman, then librarian of the Imperial Library in Calcutta, mentioned it in Religious Lyrics of Bengal. Though forbidden from entering the sanctum due to his outsider status, he penned poetry inspired by the temple’s exterior, calling it a marvel of design.

(21/25) Even the building materials carried meaning. The pink sandstone was sourced from Chunar, near present-day Uttar Pradesh, and the artisans were specially brought in from Varanasi. In colonial times, the temple’s architecture drew the attention of British scholars.

(20/25) Painted blue and four-armed, Neither Krishna nor Kali, this deity stands with one feet on the chest of a slppeing Mahadev, while the other is folded. — a posture rarely seen in Hindu iconography. The sanctum itself, made of wood, gives the temple an otherworldly presence

(19/25) The five lower levels each house a black linga, forming a vertical spiritual ascent from base to crown. The central idol — goddess Hangseshwari — is equally unique.

(18/25) This design wasn’t just artistic — it followed Tantric symbolism, representing the human body’s chakras. The temple has six floors, corresponding to six primary chakras, with a white Shiva linga placed at the topmost level.

(17/25) The Hangseshwari Temple is unlike any other in India. According to the Archaeological Survey of India, it is a singular example of Bengal temple architecture, with thirteen minaret-like shikharas (towers), each shaped like a budding lotus.
