Just think of all the money Musk, Branson, and Bezos have spent to get to where NASA was in 1961. Imagine where NASA would be if they had that money.

That five-year-old is soon to be 33, but he still calls it my “Barney Bag.” Now, though, I may have to hold back a tear or two when he does.

I’d never seen any of this until today. And until today, I never really realized the depth of a five-year-old son’s love for his father. Because that show meant so much to him, he named my bag as what he thought was the best bag in the world—his dad’s Barney Bag.

Uh, wow. It was apparently a big part of the Barney & Friends show. There’s even a song they sing every time they use the Barney Bag. And a YouTube rabbit hole of videos.

So today, when I looked in that bag for my lost tape measure, I remembered that name—I’ve always called it that since then—and also remembered I didn’t really know why he called it a “Barney Bag.” So I did a quick search on the web.

When I started, I bought myself a new tool bag, because I knew I’d need it. My five-year-old son called it my “Barney Bag.” I never really knew why. He was certainly a Barney (the dinosaur) fan at that age, so I just attributed that as the association.

I set the walls, sheathed and sided the outside, ran the electrical lines and installed the panel, set the cabinets and water fixtures—all of it.

In 1993, I built our new house. As in me, myself, and I. I had occasional—and necessary—help from friends and family and a couple of contractors for concrete, drywall, and roofing, but for the most part, I was out on our newly purchased one-acre lot by myself.

Today, I was looking for my tape measure and couldn’t find it. Looked all the places it should be; wasn’t there. Looked in my tool bag, where I normally keep such things; wasn’t there. But then I remembered a story about that bag.

Your party is attempting to overthrow majority rule in the United States and meanwhile engaging in scorched-earth obstructionism. Don’t pretend to preach “bipartisanship” until you have a voting-rights plan and an infrastructure plan popular with voters. Do you?
A Senate evenly split between both parties and a bare Democratic House majority are hardly a mandate to “go it alone.” The President should live up to the bipartisanship he preached in his inaugural address.

Second COVID vaccine done! On behalf of humans, I’m grateful to the men and women of science for their efforts to help arrest this virus, and their dedication to getting the work done quickly.

A human being is a process unfolding in time, not a fixed, unchanging object. The best human beings have often moved the furthest from their starting state. To judge adults by their teenage tweets is to totally misunderstand what it is to be human.
