SpIRIT, the first satellite funded by @AusSpaceAgency and developed in collaboration with the Italian Space Agency, arrived at the National Space Test Facility at @StromloANU this morning for the final environmental testing prior to its upcoming launch in space.

It will make the ANU optical ground station work with NASA’s Optical to Orion mission, allowing for the sending of data to the Moon, the Orion capsule, and supporting NASA's Artemis missions. This will allow us to send data very fast to low-Earth orbit, the Moon, and beyond!

Led by A/Prof Francis Bennet, we are constructing a laser optical communication station, a new telescope that will use lasers to send data to satellites and to the Moon. Under the Australian Space Agency's Moon to Mars Initiative, the team received $4.5 million to upgrade it.
