This came up in my memories today. I participated in a little hackathon after this disaster 9 years ago. Little did I know it was the event that started the nonprofit I would be working at 9 years later.

A friend's child is graduating and entering a university engineering program. With the pace of AI development, how will these students feel about the skills they've learned and the money they've spent in four years? Will those skills still be relevant?

AI is not ready to develop apps yet, particularly complex ones. However, it is great at generating docstrings, tests, and other clean code elements. The shear laziness of developers that still don't bother with this astounds me.

This slide from a presentation on Generative AI's power is both hilarious and tragic. It's either an AI failing at the task being shown off or a human putting in no effort because they let AI handle everything. 🤖😅😔

It surprises people to hear that the most useful book I've ever read for interacting with AI prompts is The 4-hour Work Week. The sections about how to communicate with a personal assistant were more helpful than any book on software engineering.

I've reached the stage where being in a hotel and not being able to tell Alexa to turn off the lights feels like camping. I'm not going to do well in the apocalypse

A friend challenged me to name a single big cultural tech advancement in the 2010's and I couldn't. Definitely not Blockchain (though what could have been) or VR. Yes TECHNICALLY AI transformers, but it wasn't felt until the 20's.
