Throughout the movies, Robotnik’s moustache is also a representation of his ego and villainy. In an S2 interview with Jim Carrey, he explained the moustache as an “outward manifestation of his megalomania.”

In S3, Crab-era sees Robotnik’s moustache grown out and unstyled, drooping across his face like a waterfall. After Stone gives him the barber treatment, his moustache is trimmed down to a smaller size than that of S2.
