At 10am on 15 August 2025, a ceremony will be held at the Bowls Green in the Old Town to mark VJ Day – the day the Second World War finally came to an end in 1945. It's a chance for us to honour those who served in the Far East and remember this moment together.

Later this year, we will welcome four waste collection vehicles, ready for the launch of the new food waste collection service next spring. The winning superhero designs will be professionally digitalised and printed on the vehicles. More info here 👇.

🍌We’re holding a competition for children to name our new food waste vehicles! 🙌. Any child who lives in Stevenage can take part in the competition to design a recycling superhero. The artwork will feature on the side of the new vehicles, and they will also be named after them.
