Breaking: Panthers practice has come to a halt after WR Keith Kirkwood is carted off after taking a hit to the head from DB JT Ibe. Ibe has been kicked out of practice. Scary moment.
Michael Jordan’s response to what is tougher to achieve - James Harden’s streak of 30 straight 30-point games OR Russell Westbrook’s 10 straight triple doubles... Classic Jordan.
I’m honestly beginning to wonder if Curtis Samuel might be Carolina’s No. 1 WR this season. Won’t surprise me. Not a knock on DJ Moore at all, but Samuel has looked THAT good in training camp.
The Carolina Panthers are 22-42 since owner David Tepper purchased the Carolina Panthers with 4 straight losing seasons. His goal upon arrival was to end the cycle of "long term mediocrity" in Carolina. Right now mediocrity (or at least being competitive) doesn't sound too bad.
Tepper hopes that Cam Newton does get healthy and stays a Panther for a long time. He said there has been ongoing conversation with Newton and all has been positive. Of course much of that will depend on how he recovers.
I have not yet confirmed the Kelly Oubre Jr. signing with the Hornets. I'm hearing there might be more moving pieces involved in this one... Stay tuned.
Ignore the uninformed FOX broadcast crew which just said Carolina will need to win out AND get some help. Not true. All Carolina will have to do is win its final four games (against 4 teams with losing records) and it will win the division.
Frustration appears to be setting in on the Hornets bench. James Borrego said something to James Bouknight while he on the was bench. Bouknight appeared to take offense and stood up to confront Borrego. Then an assistant coach took Bouknight to the locker room.
App State is 80-20 in its last 100 games… that’s pretty damn good for a school that is relatively new to the FBS. Many thought the Mountaineers were stupid, crazy, even absurd to make the jump to FBS. They were wrong. Dead wrong.

I have no numbers to back this up, but just feels like Baker Mayfield pushes the ball downfield more than Sam Darnold. Like what I have seen so far from No. 6.
Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper and team president Tom Glick will travel to New York next week and meet with Major League Soccer officials in an effort to convince them to bring an expansion team to Charlotte, North Carolina.
From my observations, there is absolutely no doubt Baker Mayfield will open the regular season as the Panthers starting quarterback (barring any unforeseen injuries). Frankly, he's just looked better than Sam Darnold at training camp.
Charlotte’s four young guys - Bacon, Bridges, Graham and Monk - hang out together a lot off the court along with Kemba Walker. They have become very close and have created a positive environment. They call themselves “Kemba and the Avengers.”
Greg Olsen will join Thomas Davis by signing one-day contract to retire as a member of the Carolina Panthers. Both will make it official next Thursday on a Zoom call.
Matt Rhule on importance of winning now and not tanking: "I was in Philadelphia when the Sixers were in the 'trust the process,' tanking thing, and they haven't hung one in the rafters, yet."
Panthers are expected to let Haason Reddick, Stephon Gilmore and Donte Jackson test the FA market. There's a good chance all three will sign elsewhere for more money.
Panthers OT Ikem Ekwonu on having to face Browns All-Pro DE Myles Garrett on Sunday in his first NFL start — and whether he would have preferred to go against someone less talented instead.
Crazy stat: The Panthers haven't run one play in which they're leading in the 4th quarter. Both wins came on the final play of the game, when they were trailing. No team since at least 1991 has gone an entire season without leading in the 4th quarter at the beginning of any play.
Scott Fitterer has informed Sam Darnold that the Panthers plan to add to the quarterback position this week. He said Darnold was comfortable with that.
Panthers safety Eric Reid said Ron Rivera didn’t agree with his decision to kneel for the national anthem at first.
But Reid credits Rivera for being open-minded and actually researching why Reid feels so strongly about his fight against racial injustices in America.
Cam Newton declines to talk to reporters about his current situation saying on his way to the shower, “You all got all of the answers anyway. Y’all gonna figure it out.”
Tepper said he can't stand losing in his own stadium. Said he was up a few times last night very upset over the loss. He said winning is the most important thing and vows the Panthers will be a winning organization. He wants Charlotte to be a winning city.
Matt Rhule said if Panthers played today they would go with Ickey Ekwonu, Brady Christensen, Bradley Bozeman, Austin Corbett and Taylor Moton as the starters. Bozeman out for a while with an injury right now though.
You watch Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady play tonight and you realize just how incredibly far the Panthers have to go on offense. That has be really disheartening if you’re a Carolina fan.
Tre Boston on Cam Newton: "The rest of those boys are playing to 40, but they got O-lines. Why does Cam get to have just average lines, get beat up & the rest of these guys have healthy O-lines and get the same treatment as, 'Aw man, these guys can play til they're 40 with ease?'
LaMelo Ball has only played 6 minutes, 17 seconds in the second half. Still on the bench here with the Hornets getting blown out by 26 in the fourth. Ball has 12 points, only 1 turnover.
Christian McCaffrey now has 1,000 yards rushing. First Panther to do it since DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart both accomplished that feat in 2009.
Yesterday was a tough one as we said goodbye to my kind, loving dad. He always encouraged me to “do something you love,” which is why I’m a sports writer. Special thank you to friends, family who traveled so far to support our family & the many meals. RIP, pop. I love you.❤️❤️❤️
Hornets owner and 6-time NBA champion Michael Jordan handing out Thanksgiving meals to people in his hometown of Wilmington, NC who were devastated by Hurricane Florence. Jordan previously donated $2 million for hurricane relief.
Evero suggests the Panthers might move Jeremy Chinn around on defense, allowing him to use his skills as a playmaker. He wants to match the scheme to fit the players and their skillsets.
Anyone else remember when Jerry Richardson said after George Seifert's third season that "the life has been sucked out of this franchise." I get that same feeling now from the numerous Panthers fans I have spoken to or heard from. They're past anger and fast approaching apathy.
Panthers QB Baker Mayfield runs with first team in team drills. Brady Christensen was at LT but moved inside to LG a few plays later with Ickey Ekwonu taking over at LT. It’s been that way most of camp. Matt Rhule wants Ekwonu to earn it.
Panthers veteran C Bradley Bozeman said he never seen two rookie offensive linemen come in and learn a playbook as well and as quickly as Ickey Ekwonu and Cade Mays have this season.
Baker Mayfield connects on a deep ball with Robbie Anderson. Great throw to get it between two defenders and a terrific grab by Anderson. That drew big cheers from the offense.
Christian McCaffrey is inactive for the Panthers. Also, Taylor Moton will start at left tackle and Brady Christensen will make his first NFL start at right tackle.
Michael Jordan teared up when talking about the new $7 million family medical clinic project and said “this is just the beginning.” This project obviously means a lot to him.
A trio of former Charlotte 49ers will be in starting lineups as the NFL Playoffs begin with NFL wild card weekend: Larry Ogunjobi, Alex Highsmith and Nate Davis. That 's pretty remarkable for a very young program.
A Panthers team official confirmed that the NFL rule is that players who are unvaccinated are required to wear a mask when speaking to the media. Sam Darnold did not wear a mask, so...
The way I see it, Cam Newton has almost no trade value once the Panthers complete the deal for Teddy Bridgewater. Teams know CAR isn’t going to keep 2 QBs with those combined salaries. This may take a few days or weeks but ultimately I think the team simply releases him.
You stole my heart a long, long time ago. You brought incredible joy to our lives over the past 11 years. Your sweet heart & unconditional love will never be forgotten. Thank you for loving our boys like they were your own. I love you & will miss you. RIP, my beautiful boy.❤️
Christian McCaffrey says his goodbyes to Cam Newton on IG: Thank you 1! You changed the way I approach the game and put the fun back in it for me. I’ll always owe you for that. I speak for the Carolinas when I say thank you for all memories and smiles you brought us...

Cam Newton gives a shoutout to the Panthers

fan base, wearing their “Change the culture” t-shirt at today’s news conference. Here’s the video clip:
I have been covering the Panthers since they began play in 1995 and this was the most embarrassing first half in franchise history -- and it's not even close.
I’ve said all week this would be 80% Cowboys fans and if anything I may have underestimated.
Panthers fans are angry and tired of losing. Don’t blame PSL owners for selling their tickets at all. Panthers need to put a product on the field worth watching.
