Start to limewash this hundred and fifteen years old house in Manchester. The pebbles were dashed onto a haired lime mortar that is still in very order, apart from the odd movement crack.

We had to watch the coffin of an unelected monarchy for 5 days straight! People actually like Kneecap and their music

" I think the colours of architecture should be those of natural stones;" and there it is John Ruskin. The Seven Lamps of Architecture. The Lamp of Beauty. Probably the quote that gave us the the artistic look of built heritage we see today. Bare stone in all its crumbliness

You don't see this in Yorkshire. Hanging slate tiles over timber lintels. Ullswater the Travellers rest.

All of the detail to go in and the cut through elevation but the basic measured sketches are done for my surveying, drawing and recording assignment. 6 hours on the drawing board and scale rule. Hopefully it will get easier. 😃👍

This looks exciting. Extra funds are always welcome and obviously vitality needed to support the heritage sector.

My bucket is caked in lime. A limewash bucket I use for roughing work, cellars, brick sheds, out houses etc. I put water in it & left it for a bit while I sprayed my lime render work ready for washing. I was shocked to see upwards wicking damp haha. Also, the cellar I'm doing now

Historic builders really thought out side of the box. That wooden lintel is only holding a small wall up that's only supporting the bottom of the stairs. They knew half a brick would easily be enough to support it.

Imagine house builders of the time largely ignoring building regulations. Plus, we not only see window tax at this time, we also see a brick tax. According to Pamela Cunningham we discover that full lime covers were used to hide the brickwork & therefore, presumably tax payments

This big plant root is causing issues with this listed wall so it's got to come out. Using 4 year old technology and 4 thousand swear words has me to this point. Haha the one next to it was much easier. Levering off very loose stones is a delicate matter

Learning the fundamentals of record keeping today. Drawing is an important element of record keeping as well as photography, CAD design and the written word. The Harris Building at UCLan looks more or less something like this. Squinting is important as is poetic licence. 🫣✅

CaSo4 2H2O forming on this sandstone in Leeds. Sulphur dioxide from burning fossil fuels is eating into the calcite in the sandstone and chemically bonding to make calcium sulphate, otherwise known as gypsum or calcium hemihydrate This stuff is terrible for sand stone.

I listened to a very good lecture and had a walk around tour of Blackburn cathedral today hosted by @louisepriestman from Saw and Jagger architects. Heritage significance and value has never been explained so well. Thanks to UClan and Louise for given us a great day.

Having a well deserved beer and watching the cricket after a 3 hour, 2000 word exam on NDHAs, planning policy, conservation areas, setting and conservation deficit at UCLan. The hardest thing I've ever done in any three hour period of my life. Pressure is off now.

Small job yesterday. Pointing and ruling. My inspiration was taken from the historical evidence left on the garden wall.
