Been working to prep for the RC and have to say perspective is everything. Haven’t been as ‘successful’ in leagues and testing from a W/L perspective, but I love playing the deck and I’m learning. Feels good to be back in the proper mindset and less acute results driven.

Decide to give an RCQ a go yesterday, really just to see the buddies more than anything. I was lucky to come away with an invite playing ol’ reliable Dimir Midrange. So glad I can ignore standard now and do some work to prepare for RC Houston. Breaks are healthy.

Have been taking a break from Magic and have to admit I’ve realized how unhealthy the hobby and grind easily becomes. Have to answer questions on how to enjoy it without overindulging in it when I get back to playing again.

Magic can be a cruel game with how we continually redefine and chase success. It is important to value the relationships and community we create and celebrate small victories on the path to larger goals. Hang in there, grinders, and I’ll see you in Htown in October!

Winrate was a little lower than I’d like, but I did play Boros for the majority of the season, save 3 tournaments in which I played BW Blink. Boros is very stable in its matchup data across the format, so I feel I played it well.

This was a very trying season with the unspoken pressure of wanting to represent at the hometown RC and the unfortunate series of losing 3 finals matches (2 to teammates) before breaking through. Ultimately we got there.

MODERN RCQ RESULTS THREAD: Match record (IDs and scoops either direction removed): 59-28 (68%) Top 8s: 11 in 17 RCQs. I failed to advance at least one round only a single time. Invite: ✅

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! In the final leg of the RCQ triple weekend, an invite was secured for the same teammate who lost the 2am finals on Friday night. I had to play round 5 at 3-1 and died to a flying jumbo cactuar, but that’s Magic and today was never about me. MTG is wonderful

Redemption comes in the final leg tomorrow as we try to get redemption for the Friday night runner-up who couldn’t make the trek today. Fingers crossed!

We’re 2 legs into the triple RCQ weekend. Counting car sleep time, we’ve had about 2.5 hours of shuteye. Heartbreaking result last night as our homie lost the finals at 2am, but across the border in LA, two Houston homies got their invites after some top 8 love was given out!

Summer Magic grind is the best. Friday limited RCQ in Austin tomorrow *evening*, followed by a 2 slot Modern RCQ in Lake Charles, LA on Saturday. Great Gathering vibes incoming!

A pair of Top 4 finishes this week after deciding to put Energy away for a weekend and pick up Orzhov Blink. When this deck first came out, I tested with it ahead of the RC cycle and found myself overwhelmed with the decision lines. Less so this weekend, which is a sign of growth

Card is absolutely cracked for RCQ metagames and you should absolutely play it. It has won me somewhere around 6-8 games on its own this season.
