The word ‘thesaurus’ doesn’t really have a synonym. Some dictionaries list near-alternatives like ‘synonym dictionary’ or ‘lexicon’, but these don’t fully mean the same thing. Have any other examples of language being wonderfully ironic? Let us know in the comments! #FunFacts

A group of elephants can be called a parade.🥁🐘🐘🐘🎊 ‘Herd’ is the most commonly used collective noun, and you might also come across a ‘memory’ of elephants in some texts, inspired by their remarkable memories. #FunFacts #MakeLearningFun

The word ‘mistletoe’ comes from Old English ‘misteltan’, where ‘tan’ means ‘twig’. 🌿 The first part, ‘mistel’, is thought to relate to an old Germanic-derived noun mix, meaning ‘dung’ or ‘filth’ - as mistletoe can be spread through bird droppings. #FunFacts #MakeLearningFun

Our new Definitions activity presents a fun way to make sure learners understand the meaning of words before they practise them. This helps students connect words to meaning right from the beginning, giving them a stronger foundation for spelling, reading, and comprehension.
