Same year dispatched to Ethiopia to investigate if Tigray forces had (also) committed atrocities in t civil war, came unexpectedly 2 the frontline and ended up being arrested 4 times in one day by suspicious soldiers. w/ thanks to legend @giuliaparavicin .

In 2021 - a @Reuters tragedy, with death in Afghanistan of photographer Danish Siddiqui. The company asked me me w @char_greenfield @DevjyotGhoshal @AlasdairPal @readelev to investigate how he died & decisions that led to his fateful assignment

Meanwhile, there was Covid, and, alongside @AndyMacaskill @stecklow @McNeill_Tweets and @reuterstommy the only year I reported from the UK for Reuters. The most shocking thing: the abandonment of car homes. This piece was made by pixman @PBANicholl

In the aftermath, the Malta government resigned. And the most extraordinary moment: taking by phone from jail the first confession of the chief hitman. After this piece, he changed his plea to Guilty.

Then journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia was killed and i was drawn into helping the formidable @FbdnStories found a team of hacks to continue her work: that was #DaphneProject . Our first piece together with @darrinzl.

@realDonaldTrump was now on scene - and I pivoted to a look @ how Russians, including some connected to organised crime, were investors in a Trump projects in #Panama & Florida - with @nedmparker1 @stefanieyaa @bradleybrooks @NathanPLayne @McNeill_Tweets

And then onwards - to t appalling death toll of migrants in t Med. After one tragedy, my editor @iron_emu asked: Can you trace the smugglers responsible? And with the brilliant @AminaIsmail we did. This still feels the most important piece i did @reuters

The Comrade Capitalism series finished in #Ukraine - where we traced Moscow links of some top local oligarchs. And where privileged to partner with @SMusaieva who went on to edit @ukrpravda_news; & @tombergin_News helped unravel the network.

As we pounded streets of Moscow we maybe enjoyed last moments of press freedom before the clampdown on reporting. With @jc_stubbs Anin & Andrey Kuzmin - we were the first to fully confirm the i.d. of Putin's daughters & their privileged ties to oligarchs
