Also, when 8 of your family members show up for a talk/event, you're guaranteeing a minimum audience size! 10/10, would recommend.

They are the most stubborn, resilient women I know, and through sheer grit-- along with stable, working-class jobs and government assistance-- they launched their kids into the middle-class and beyond. Last night, I was overwhelmed with pride in them and.

At 95, she was there cheering me on last night (to my right, in red). My Grammy (to her right), worked as a "secretary" up the street at UConn, where she raised four children, part of the time as a single mother who needed help from the same New Deal social programs I've studied.

I had the best time talking with students & faculty @EasternCTStateU last night. It was a full-circle moment: after arriving in the US from Italy, knowing no English and never learning to read or write it, my Nona found a job there as a cook, which she kept for 33 years.

In the book, I plan to describe the forces that sustain these local political dynamics and assess the extent to which new policies and political mobilizations could disrupt the status quo. Looking forward to feedback as I develop this paper and make it into a real book!.

The book will examine tensions between local and national political behavior in contemporary suburban America: coastal suburbs have grown increasingly Democratic, yet their residents often advocate for housing and education policies that reproduce spatial inequalities.

Really looking forward to #APSA2024 this week, where I'll get to share a working paper from my new book project about suburban Democrats, which I've been working on for a little over two years now.

If you've encountered me at all in the past two years, you know I love it here. It's mainly because of the people. If you're on the fence about applying because you don't think you'll find a supportive community here, just let me try and persuade you first!.

Thanks to @LSEUSAblog for giving me the chance to share my work about how local organizations matter in shaping postindustrial politics! The sooner we stop thinking about the Midwest or ex-urban/postindustrial places as homogeneous, the better #USAPP.
