ππ»ββοΈ What does this mean? Hamstring geometry (including tendon structures) and typology are key for both sprint and strength performance. Hamstring tendon geometry (and presumably mechanical properties too) is important for supporting athletic performance.

π‘ Thereβs more! Elite athletes had ~1.5 x more Type II fibres in BFlh than rec actives. Related to performance: - max sprint velocity was related to med hamstring muscle/tendon volume & muscle typology - max ecc strength was related to BFlh & SM muscle volume & ST tendon vol.

π‘ What else? This one is my favourite: Despite elite athletes having larger tissues overall, the ratio of force-generating muscle to force-transmitting tendon structures wasnβt different btwn groups. This suggests proportional scaling of tissues over time, keeping the balance.

π‘ What did we find? Elites athletes had larger hamstring muscles, aponeuroses and free tendons. There was non-uniform hypertrophy along the length of the muscles.

What was the aim? 1. To identify differences btwn elite sprinters/jumpers & rec active individuals in: - hamstring muscle-tendon geometry (cross-sectional area/volume) - muscle typology (proportion of Type I/II fibres) 2. If these relate to sprint and strength performance.

"Balance" exercises, like standing on an unstable surface, and doing calf raises or squats are often advocated to improve "stability" or "balance". But, what are they really doing and are they valuable?
