Access to a SAN specific surface marker will advance SAN specific disease modelling, targeted in vivo drug delivery, and the development of biological pacemakers. #biologicalpacemaker #BioPM #regmed.

CD34 specifically labels SAN pacemaker cardiomyocytes in human SAN tissue and SANLPC cultures. Sorting for CD34+ cells from human pluripotent stem cell differentiation cultures enriches for SANLPCs with a functional pacemaker phenotype.

We show that the developing SAN consists of three subtypes of pacemaker cells: Core Pacemaker, Sinus Venosus, and Transitional Cells. Human pluripotent stem cell-derived SANLPC cultures contain the same subset of pacemaker cells and closely resemble fetal SAN pacemaker cells.

We performed single nuclei transcriptome analysis of the human SAN to get a better understanding of its cellular and molecular composition and identified multiple SAN specific markers including MYH11, BMP4 and CD34.

So excited to share the first paper from the lab!.We identified CD34 as a marker of the heart’s SAN pacemaker cells enabling their isolation from stem cell differentiation cultures, advancing future disease modeling and biological pacemaker applications.

Great talk by @michellecells on hPSC-derived AVNLPc and efforts to develop a biological conduction bridge. We are looking to move this project into a preclinical pig model and recruiting a pdf leading this work. DM if interested #tmm2024 @McEwenInstitute
