We were very young. I was 6 when it opened, and had two older brothers who let me tag along with the "big kids" in the neighborhood. Guess who always got hurt in the dirt clod fights? Pictured: Bruce, Gary, Beth, and Dale the children of Gene (not pictured) & Ruth Jeanne

In the winter we would sled the hills from Steger to the creek. A really great run would get you onto the ice. We also had dirt clod fights, as we called them, using the piles of dirt when [Steger] was being built.

I lived on Hardith Hill Ct. And went to Schall school for grade school. Living very close to Steger, we spent most days playing in the creek on Steger grounds, and under the Rock Hill Road bridge. The Chatter Box lounge was on the other side of the road.
