This event is the Starknet assembly, which took place in October 2023 and brought together over 40 key contributors from the community, as well as members of
@StarkWareLtd
& the
@StarknetFndn
.
The goal? To discuss the issues faced by Starknet and propose solutions to fix them.
This report notably highlights that StarkWare and the Foundation are:
β― aware of their current problems
β― actively working to resolve them
β― most importantly, listening to the community.
The report mentions several important changes that are already starting to take shape on Starknet.
And I suspect there may be changes to come that we haven't seen yet π
Letβs get started.
The assembly was organized around 4 main topics:
1οΈβ£Β Starknet culture
Starknet has a unique culture, that's a fact. However, the main question is whether this culture is suitable for the mass onboarding of users and developers on Starknet.
2οΈβ£Β The growth of Starknet

π ββοΈ Developer-Focused Approach π ββοΈ
Given that Starknet is not EVM compatible and everything needs to be built with a new programming language, it is understandable that
@StarkWareLtd
has prioritized developer onboarding strategies.
After more than 2 years, it is now time to startβ¦
π ββοΈ Lack of marketing initiatives π ββοΈ
There are several needs π
β― More BD
β― Official user-focused campaigns
β― Collaboration with key figures in the ecosystem
β― Welcoming non-developers for holistic growth
β― More VC collaboration
π ββοΈ European-Centric Community π ββοΈ
The Starknet community mostly consists of French speakers (Iβm guilty fam) and, in a broader sense, Europeans.
It is crucial to expand into new markets, particularly in Africa, US, and Asia.
π ββοΈ Culture too focused on exclusive elements π ββοΈ
Certain cultural choices within the ecosystem are considered overly exclusive.
This includes references to anime and the slogan 'Keep Starknet Strange', which can have negative connotations or be perceived as unprofessional.
π ββοΈ Transparency π ββοΈ
There is a need for greater transparency regarding the roadmap of Starknet, as well as the marketing support provided by the foundation and Starknet in general.
Official accounts should communicate with more openness.
π ββοΈ Diversity of projects π ββοΈ
Currently, there is a lack of project diversity on Starknet.
βOur culture currently looks down on people that are looking to make money, even with simple products. This prevents actual growth and development from coming in.β
Starknet needs to:

π ββοΈ Continue the onboarding of developers π ββοΈ
The core element of an ecosystem is its pool of developers. Starknet already has a larger community of developers than other L2.
However, more is needed to have an explosion of dApps on Starknet.
To achieve this, Starknet needs to:β¦
Note that all of this is just feedback and not official decisions.
However, in recent weeks, we have already begun to see initiatives that aim to address some of the issues mentioned during this assembly, notably π
Incentivize other parts of the community beyond justβ¦
In my opinion, an ecosystem that includes key contributors who are capable of self-criticism and open to collaboration with the main builders of the ecosystem is one that will strongly thrive.
This Assembly makes me more bullish than ever about Starknet π«

π’ Two weeks ago, the
@starknet
ecosystem witnessed its first community-led Starknet Assembly.
Spanning four days, this initiative was community-proposed and executed, with an emphasis on collaboration and open dialogue.
