The @NYRangers loss of Hall of Famer #EddieGiacomin has hit fans harder than any Blueshirt I remember. He may have been from Northern Ontario but E.G. became New York all the way; a true Blue Collar Blue Shirt. Author Joe Rossi puts it best: "The news made me feel like crying!"

Condolences to the family of Bob Goodenow. He dedicated himself to improve the NHLPA and the records show that he achieved that goal many times over. R.I.P.

Passing of longtime @NJDevils off-ice official #VinGodleski is mourned by all who new this wonderful guy who starred in the famed "Yellow Sunday" Devs-Bruins playoff as referee with Jim Sullivan and Paul MacInnis. R.I.P. Vin, You made a lot of folks happy with your personality.

A MUST for all hockey fans: Joseph Rossi's upcoming (Sept. 27) book "Remembering Long Island Arena." This is rich history of a place that brings the fictional "Slapshot" movie into real life. As Rossi notes: "It may be the only arena where the Zamboni drive got into a fight."

The Maven met Ken Dryden through is pal and agent Art Kaminsky. Ken was with Art before Ken hit the heights which was when Art introduced us. Ken never lost the down-to-earth quality that made him what he became. Especially at top of @MapleLeafs hierarchy.

Ken Dryden -- whose passing is incredibly sad for me -- was truly a one of a kind; and then they threw away the mold. His brilliance in goal was matched by his conquest of the writing business and his fervent desire to make hockey better. Plus, he was just a sweetheart of a guy.

In his fine book, BALLPARK THERAPY, author George Falkowski has contributions from Hall of Famer Wade Boggs and former big leaguers Rick Cerone and Sparky Lyle; also broadcasters, a minor league GM and a woman whose mom played pro baseball in the 1950's. It's a winner for all!

A TERRIFIC NEW BASEBALL BOOK: It's called 'BALLPARK THERAPY: Why We Go, Why It Matters.' Everybody has a reason to go to the park and author George Falkowski interviewed people from all parts of the game about why the ballpark is a place of comfort, escape and community. (MORE).

Just checking: when do we start finding ways and means for the @MapleLeafs to win their first Cup next Spring? Or, since Hector was a pup? (By the way, no rush, we can wait another 58 years, or so. No?) Well, not The Maven who's still waiting.

That's my grand-daughter, Avigail (Gully) Fischler, scoring a sweet one-timer for the Quebec Rattlesnakes in the Beantown Classic championship[ game. He goal tied the count at 2-2 and was on the ice for the game-winner on a power play in overtime.

Has The Maven missed the @EdmontonOilers re-signing of #ConnorMcDavid? And if I haven't slept through it, what's taking so long. Is it a case of moolah, term or is the captain still doubting management is building a Cup-winner and not a perennial runner-up. Just wondering.
