“It’s about how many chances we can make, and then can we finish one more than the other team. It doesn’t have to be pretty. You just need one more goal.”

The repairs began at 11 a.m.

A lot of Christmas cheer was in the air at the community center Saturday, as children picked out toys, took photos with Santa and had a ball at St. Charles Parish's annual Christmas giveaway.

“A lot of kids live here in Norco and we’re trying to bring them a sense of normalcy for the holiday, to let them know Santa’s not going to forget about us here … we just kind of came up with the idea and ran with it.”

"As the season progresses, I only see us getting better. This group works so hard and is learning quick.”

The family was living outside in tents after Hurricane Ida destroyed their home, but thanks to a very kind gesture, that's changed.

“I was also a foster ... I have three dogs who were adopted or rescued and I wanted to help other dogs who needed it.”

It was Zachary's night, the Broncos downing Destrehan in the Class 5A semifinals. It ended a season that saw DHS lift the spirits of a community recovering from Ida - and overcoming its own obstables from it to do so.

"Thank God for my mom, my brother and my kids. They’ve kept me pretty sane in spite of it all. At the same time, though, this has been, by far, the worst year of my entire life.”

“The good thing, at least, is that we left. We almost didn’t. If we’d have stayed, we wouldn’t be here … it’s been a really rough time, but it’s getting a bit easier now.”

“When I lay my head down at night, once we’re finally back in, that roof will be sheltering us and all of the community helped to put it there in such a dire time ... there will never be enough words or enough time to convey how grateful we are."

It's a truly remarkable run for Destrehan, which next week will play in the Class 5A state semifinals for the seventh time in nine seasons. A hard-fought win over Ruston Friday night was the path to get there.

Two of the state's most consistent winners face off at Wildcat Stadium on Friday night with a trip to the Class 5A semifinals on the line - their last meeting was a defensive classic.

Hahnville had a stellar 2020-21 season, and another step forward is the goal for the Lady Tigers.
