This story and surrounding noise is another case of fiction being pushed as historical truth by circular referencing and sheer narrative power. Vikram sampath explained the whole fiction in Pondi lit fest.

Under the language policy prevalent in TN, it was possible for people with Tamil as their mother tongue to complete schooling without learning Tamil. Forget writing, there are many from that generation who read Tamil using English alphabets. Was it not detrimental to Tamil?

In the Dravidian Worldview, unlike Sanskrit, Tamil is a living language. In the same breath they say that Sanskrit was supported by erstwhile Kings of TN over many centuries. If inspite of that support Tamil survives, how come learning a third language will bring its downfall?

In the context of constitution it would be relevant to cite the views of Dr.Ambedkar who during Andhra bill debate felt that linguism in India was fostering communalism leading to discrimination. He felt that one way this could be addressed is by giving more powers to Governor.

There is an attempt to confuse the Home minister's statement on fostering adoption of Hindi under Article 351 of Constitution with the three language formula. When P Chidambaram was Home minister and DMK was part of the Government, he had talked about promoting Hindi.

In the Wheebox India skills report too, it is seen that KA, UP, TG, MH etc perform better than TN in terms of available skills in English as second language. These figures negate the claim that two language formula provides better outcomes & English illiteracy is more elsewhere

Now let us look at the median score of IELTS Academic and General Training exams based on their first language. Those with Hindi as first language do better than those with Tamil as first language. Kannada and Marathi speakers also do better than Tamil speakers.

4. The minister asserts that the learning outcomes are better with the model followed by Tamil Nadu and that English could have become the link language if North had taught English. This implies that English proficiency of TN students is better than Hindi speaking people.

Inspite of the minister's assurance that Govt encourages people to learn other languages, in particular Hindi, there are groups like WeDravidians, which organize protests against Hindi Prachar Sabha. AFAIK no action is taken against such groups. https://t.co/qKNo4uq9rw

If people in TN thought that Hindi is being imposed, there would not be any takers for Hindi Prachar Sabha. If people really agreed with the notion of Dravidian leaders that learning Hindi is useless, why would they flock to Hindi Prachar Sabha?

3. The article says that Dakshin Bharath Hindi Prachar Sabha is headquartered in Chennai. The implication being choice is offered to learn. From the numbers published by Hindi Prachar Sabha, it can be inferred that there is an wide spread interest in learning Hindi.

SC has ruled that the option to study mother tongue should be provided. Children of migrant workers having mother tongue as Hindi, Bengali would need to be provided the option. Hence, even without NEP, the practical problems alluded to in the article need to be addressed.

2. It is wrongly asserted that Two language formula means Tamil + English a) Prior to 2006 it was possible to complete education in Tamilnadu without learning Tamil. b) But with TamilNadu Tamil learning act 2006, an optional third language was allowed.

A movement that prides itself being anti-brahminical, and which constantly says that Brahminism denied opportunities to learn, based on some injunctions, are the ones who are in the fore front of denying the opportunity to provide quality education & learn additional languages

In the context of three language formula discussion, if every school in TN, taught Tamil & English, that is a equitable policy. But most private schools provides a choice to learn other languages. Quality education is denied to those studying in government schools. Equitable?

Here are some of the salient points in this article and let us analyze them one by one 1. Dravidian Philosophy removed the exclusivity in education and gave equitable access. Equitable means fair & impartial distribution of resources, opportunities, or services to all people
