On November 9, 2016, I was teaching at an elementary school with a high percentage of immigrants, mostly legal refugees from Iraq. Many of the children were crying. One asked, “How soon are they going to deport us?”
@aliciaandrz I was teaching at a 98% Hispanic high school in 2016. Kids ages 14-18 cycled through my classroom all day crying. One freshman girl, crying, asked “why do they hate us so much?” It was by far the hardest day I’ve had on a job. Preparing absolutely makes sense.

When my L is also my W: Today 5 minutes into the speaking quiz, I could tell my rubric was junk. Kids that I thought “hmm, D” were scoring a B. The win: I did NOT spend my whole lunch rewriting the rubric and running copies. I just gave everyone Bs and ate my lunch in peace.
