A River! That’s why we speak for the river, advocating for stronger protections and cleaner water.

Did we really have 7 days over 100 degrees this summer? We will see what that does to water temperature. Stay tuned.

Even new infrastructure doesn’t work as planned, and that’s what happened recently with a stormwater treatment facility in Spokane. It’s a frustrating setback, but the City of Spokane worked quickly to mitigate pollution from the site to the river and fix the issue. Read more

This is a big bummer. What you’re seeing here is the inflow berm for the TJ Meenach stormwater pond has blown out, some of it into the river. These stormwater ponds were designed to clean dirty street water through infiltration that otherwise would’ve gone into the river.

At a meeting about toxic metals from the Silver Valley. Approximately 100 tundra swans die each year from lead poisoning that originated from the Bunker Hill mine. Max is 388 swans.

Yesterday, the U.S. EPA issued a Final PCB TMDL for the Spokane River. This is a result of years of advocacy, research, and legal action aimed at reducing harmful PCB pollution affecting our river.  But, we believe it is insufficient to address the contamination.

But I do appreciate River centric celebrations. And somehow we’ve connected Babe Ruth with the Spokane River.

I’m not sure how I feel about hitting baseballs into the River.

Time-lapse for your timeline. Last night, our contractor crews working on the North Spokane Corridor began setting the first of many girders that will span the Spokane River. In a few weeks, these puzzle pieces will come together & the bridge will really start to take shape.

I’d also like to formally submit my petition for the official bird of the Spokane River: the common merganser. It’s here year round, lives on the river, and depends on healthy fish populations.
