Retweeting this because it's important and people seem to forget the deeper issue here. This isn't just about a movie being "banned" or a ride closing. This is about the villification of actual people's culture and the suppression of their oral traditions.
@Starport97 @KateFisher96 This isn't just a movie. They have irreparably damaged the reputation of actual people's cultural heritage. They are sending the message that these characters and stories that have survived generations of suppression and colonialism are bad. That's not ok.

(1/2) I cannot emphasize enough how sad this makes me. My last visit to WDW was in 2019. Which was, imo, the last year before everything truly came crashing down. Even if you are in favor of these changes, I think most people can agree that they all happened WAY too quickly.
We lost .Dinosaur.Rivers of America .Liberty Belle.TSI.Splash Mountain .MuppetVision 3D.Magical Express. Within just 5 years. Five. This isn’t even a full list either, just off the top of my head.

It's depressing, but it's true.
Sorry to say that Rivers of America is a lost cause. The mere fact that the folks in charge of this company/these parks decided this is proof that they are utterly lost and haven't got the slightest clue what made them successful in the first place. It's like talking to a wall.

Splash worked because it was based on a small anthology of folktales/cartoon shorts, and it tied them all together cohesively in a simple, easy to follow narrative. Even if TBA followed the movie, it would be a mess, as it's very difficult to adapt a movie into a 10 minute ride.
@RickWS Not trying to single you out, but the ride isn’t fine by Disney quality standards, and including Dr Facilier wouldn’t have changed that. Splash Mountain was structured on the “hero’s journey” and succeeded based on its easy to communicate story with high stakes for the.

I don't think I'll ever trust them again after the disaster that was TBA. Not that I ever trusted them with TBA to begin with, but it should have been a huge wake up call for fans. And yet, somehow it wasn't.
@Mickey_Central Remember what happened last time we were told to “trust the Imagineers”.
