@StewardAstro We've come a long way since Hubble's time, so much so that we can now scope out some of the first galaxies ever formed. But some of them look kind of weird . kind of . elongated . kind of . banana shaped?

@StewardAstro The shapes of galaxies have long been an important area of study in astronomy. Looking back to the glory days of Hubble, the shapes and structures of galaxies were (sometimes incorrectly) tried to be tied to their formation, evolution, and history.

Tonight's speaker is Haowen Zhang, newly minted Ph.D. at @StewardAstro to tell us why galaxies are actually just my favorite fruit (hint . it's a 🍌).
