Not saying you need to have the ULTIMATE fancy design for you to grow, but it shouldn't be slacked on either. Cuz whether you like it or not, how you look as a vtuber is important because it represents you and everything else you do from here on out including your content.

That being said, when you have newcomers join your stream thinking your model looks nice, the next thing they'll do is wonder if your content is just as good. From there is when you'll need your content to carry through to them so that they'll love you even more.

Imo, both content and model design should be equally important. Your model is the #1 thing newcomers will see when they tune in to your streams, so having a nice model/nice setup is a good way to keep their attention if they've only just heard of you for the first time.
CONTENT should be the first thing you do as a "vtuber". You don't need a model, you don't even need a PNG, you don't need to have a face or a fancy design. I don't know in what universe people forgot that vtubers are still creators. Create the content first. Then you can
