If you hate Muslims, all of Islam, & don’t think progressive forms of Islam are ‘real’ Islam, then we fundamentally disagree in a way that is core to my very being. However, epistemologically, I am willing to accept that I might be wrong about Islam, but in practice I’m certain.

We must never be intimidated by those hostile to our values, freedoms, and way of life. Yielding would cede authority, self-determination, and sovereignty. It begins subtly, then escalates to overt control. https://t.co/QW0hpSNWeG

3/ One Muslim student thanked us at the end. Another Muslim student asked for advice on how to approach a family member who is getting drawn into Islamist extremism. I'm convinced outreach work can make a real positive difference.

2/ Proud to have spoken alongside two incredible people, both of whom are survivors of two separate terror attacks. Despite everything they’ve been through, they continue to show bravery every single day they do this work.

I feel like the crazy person in movies screaming about how the end is nigh, but unless we figure out how to align AI with human goals, civilisation might cease to exist. Interestingly, the UK government is leading the world on taking this existential risk seriously.

AI safety / alignment theoreticians were warning about this years ago before the LLM revolution even took over. The *severe* risk posed by AI models developing survival 'instincts' cannot be overstated. https://t.co/nBghda50ib

Whatever you believe the solutions to our ills to be, it would be incredibly tragic if we destroyed the country by way of trying to fix it. Remember, things can always get worse. Always.

I'm saddened that such a brilliant mind with so much potential wasted away such an opportunity. No one should be celebrating the death of political rivals, no matter how abhorrent, and as a society we need hold those in positions of power accountable if they celebrate violence.
The president-elect of the Oxford Union has been ousted following outrage over his apparent celebration of Charlie Kirk’s shooting. Read more here ⬇️ https://t.co/DkHbZJ5gnK

8/ I bring this up is to remind everyone that we all have a duty to protect each other from extremism and radicalisation. This is also about the kind of society we want to live in. I want us all to feel a genuine connection with one another. All good starts from there.

6/ Suddenly the good people deserve everything the world has to offer, and the bad people are evil to such a degree that they become subhuman and thus deserving of violence; ultimately, even total eradication...

4/ The real world is full of moral ambiguity, and that unsettles us. So we construct simpler worlds in our minds, where things are clear. Where there are “good people” and “bad people.”

3/ Suddenly it’s not so simple, and that’s deeply uncomfortable to most of us. I’ve met people imprisoned for acts of retributive violence which, if we truly knew the backstory, most of us would quietly admit were understandable, even if still unjustifiable.
