Personally I don't think there IS a good explanation for it, because it was a situation built on booking decisions and not necessarily storytelling that makes sense.

I will personally never agree with this explanation, because Gabe's hate for aew was born out of his love for njpw. He should never choose his hate for aew over what he and njpw stand for or align himself with those who disrespect(ed) njpw.
@BigVanDermo @shibruva this has always been the best explanation, the Death Riders, the team that sought to destroy AEW from the inside and reshape it in their image was the group that he chose to work with.
