This is a call to action for protection, visibility, and justice.

The day grew from the mourning of trans women like Rita Hester, whose death in 1998 sparked a movement to name and remember.

Trans Day of Remembrance is a solemn day to honor trans, nonbinary, and gender-diverse lives lost to violence, suicide, and systemic erasure.

When was the last time you saw a Black teen love story that didn’t end in trauma? When did we stop believing our kids deserved romance, joy, and emotional education? Let’s bring it back, for them and for us, and for the generations still learning how to hold each other softly.

Netflix’s Forever gave us an increasingly rare, soft look at Black teen love in the modern world. It was awkward, affirming, and quietly profound. Where have our stories gone? Young people are growing up with endless content, but no space to actually feel it out for themselves.

Before the heartbreaks and “healing eras,” there was Black puppy love. That flutter when somebody wrote your name in bubble letters. <3 That anticipation that came from sending your homegirl over to see if your crush liked you back.

We honor the women, queer folks, poor people, and disabled folks who were experimented on, sterilized, or denied choice. Their survival made our access possible. And we acknowledge that birth control isn’t the enemy. Control is.

It's been a birth control heavy week, and I love that for us! Today's post goes into the different types of birth control, where you can find them, and how birth control fits into the politics of it all.

Today, I'm wondering about birth control. I'm looking for the good, the bad, and the ugly. Which options work for you? Which absolutely did not? What have you heard about birth control? Do you have conversations about it with your people?

The Julians remind us that Black brilliance built the foundations of reproductive and hormonal science AND fought to keep those tools from being weaponized against us. They represent the duality of Black liberation work: innovation and protection, creation and resistance.

Culture ≠ Costume. Humanity ≠ Halloween theme. We deserve a world where folks don’t have to fight to exist 364 days a year only to be mocked on the 365th. Stand on integrity this Halloween. Not appropriation.

There should be no single issue orgs seeing as we don't live single issue lives. Now more than ever our movements need to be collaborating to meet the needs of our communities because our struggles are connected.

Listen this weekend is going to be rough for too many people, especially knowing that it didn't have to be like this. This is an intentional act of violence by our government. What I want to focus on is how connected our movements should be to our lives.
