P.S. I am totally onboard with asking for updates! Communication is super important between commissioner and artist. My issue is with the entitlement to >daily< updates and the demand that artists not take it as a negative or stressful experience.

I don’t care if you have a flat colour palette on the side. It’s a very common issue for artists to mistake shadows for markings only to be told we messed up the OC. It’s extremely irritating and a colour palette doesn’t help the issue. Simply do not shade your refs.

If anyone is like me and is not great at freehanding people facing backwards, this is a sort of “cheat” I’ve used countless times on my reference sheets!.It makes the back ref infinitely easier AND it keeps the ref looking symmetrical …(ish) 🥰

While we’re at it, here are things commonly forgotten on refs:. Tongue colours.Pawpad colour.Non shaded version of eye colours.Back view (two side views don’t count). And it’s helpful if you have a complex OC to point out things you don’t want looked over/ things ppl forget.

It’s literally less effort to NOT shade it. A lot of artists will charge you extra for the hassle of working with a shaded reference sheet. If you have a shaded ref then congrats, you put in more effort only to effectively pay more for commissions from a large % of artists.
