1/9 Modern Shi’i Islam as we know it would not exist without South Asia. It all starts in

in North India. From 1775-1856, the city was the capital of the state of Awadh (or Oudh). Its Shi’i rulers, the nawwabs, used splendid architecture to propagate their faith.
Sickening terrorism is back in Europe. It's incredible hard to start teaching today a seminar on the continent's relations with the Middle East. Yet, it's crucial to understand that our shared story is far greater than hatred, violence, and a supposed clash of cultures.
