1/ Our lab grew and grew QUICKLY! We ended the year with 4 PhD students, 7 undergraduate students, 1 post-doc and 1 high school student. Literally the best team on this side of heaven.

Today officially marks 1 year of being an Assistant Professor! In this past year, the team has accomplished a lot, learned a lot, and had even more fun! I couldn’t ask for a better group of trainees to be on this journey with. Here’s a thread of our random accomplishments.

I’m soooo incredibly proud of the team for trying new strategies to take control of their schedules. For pushing themselves to find new ways to be productive (both in academics and in their personal lives).

For the month of February, the folks in my lab focused on a critical skill— time management. We all tracked our time for 1 week, mapped out how we would PREFER to be spending our time, and then discussed strategies to get closer to our “ideal” schedule.

Today I asked my lab members to join me in a literature reading challenge. One scientific paper per day. Reading and keeping up to date on the scientific advances is a critical part of the research process. I’m super excited to see how much everyone reads at the end of January.
