Flowers for Furaha! As your mentees, we are so grateful for you 💐. My PhD journey was made so much richer for having you there . You so generously gave your time, and became a trusted, compassionate voice of reason. Will defo be taking a leaf out of your book & paying it fwd 🖤.
At the start of 2020 I started mentoring Black women PhD candidates; 3 in UK and one in Nigeria. Three submitted and defended, and the fourth has just submitted. Each and every one of them is so intelligent, kind, and an excellent researcher. Higher heights ahead for them❤️.

Thank you @UniofNewcastle 🙌🏾.
We're very proud of one of our outstanding researchers, Dr Simone Webb, who is among the first eight people to be awarded a Royal Society Career Development Fellowship, aimed at developing underrepresentation in UK STEM academia! 👏🎉. #WeAreNCL.

While this @royalsociety Fellowship seeks to redress parts of the Broken Pipeline in UK academia in its own way, I keenly look forward to meeting this cohort of Fellows, and exploring those tangible + intangible things that emboldened us with staying power. Ofc the science too!.

Joining the @HHMIJanelia @LeadingEdgeSymp Fellowship during my postdoc gave me the confidence & practical tools to envision an independent research career. All the flowers to @karalmckinley for bringing this into existence 💐 It takes a village.

Community is transformative. After the report^ we sought eachother & founded @ACRC_UK for peer PhD support. We turned 5 y/o this week & are 120-strong. I'm indebted to these amazing scholars who emboldened me w/staying power #BlackInAcademia.

I regularly question if UK academia is for me. There are serious gaps in recruitment, retention & progression of Black scholars. Only 30 of 19,868 UKRI PhD studentships went to Black Carib' students in 2016-18 @LeadingRoutes.
