I'm just a guy who's crazy about movies. To me they're much more than entertainment, waking dreams cast upon a screen. I'll watch anything and report here after

The first Black Phone was a masterclass in sustained tension, so it’s a letdown to see the sequel lose so much of that gripping suspense. Visually, it’s stunning, the atmosphere, tone, and dreamlike 16mm aesthetic of the dreams are unforgettable-too bad the rest is. 2/5

The Roses, a fresh take on War of the Roses, thrives largely because of Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman. Their chemistry is electric—they bounce off each other with sharp timing. It’s not without a few problems but when all the elements are in place it really sings. 3/5

Magic Cop is pure early ’90s Hong Kong chaos in the best way—wild genre mashups, jump-cut editing, and a totally committed sense of magical weirdness. The supernatural elements are super creative, and the magic-wielding cop himself is an instant eyebrow legend. 3.5/5

Hypothetical Double Features Resident Evil (2002)/ Bio-Zombie (2000) This would be such a fun double feature. Both titles were very early on in the great zombie genre resuscitation of the 2000s and both come at it from different perspectives.

I think we were all expecting a case of style over substance. That’s the Tron creed at this point. You can literally hear Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross holding the movie up with their amazing score and as a massive NIN fan their efforts are very appreciated. 3/5

When I say I’ll watch any movie- I mean it. That creed leads to great things sometimes. Josie is a great satire and a total blast. The New Beverly has this on a double feature tonight with They Live- so cool! Mad props to the @PureCinemaPod for putting this on my radar. 3.5/5

Man, Blade is just legendary. I was 12 when I saw it opening day. That opening blood rave hit like lightning and didn’t let go—the music, the mood, the sheer attitude of it all. Every time I watch this thing I find more to love about it, it’s just dripping cool. 5/5

Caught Stealing. Sony dropped the ball on this one. A completely different film from what the marketing promised- which can be great but this just didn’t work for me. It felt like it wanted to go wild so many times and it was held back. 2/5

Transformers: Dark of the Moon Revisit These movies were tough sits for their time but I always defended this one for the Battle of Chicago. I can no longer abide after 14 years. Full Letterbox Review: https://t.co/Fw6yuIMdio

Michael Bay’s Dark of the Moon is, in my opinion, the best of his Transformers films — though that’s not saying much. The opening Apollo sequence is genuinely cool, but the slog of human subplots…
