Fellow ethnographer and a great guy was murdered by Russians. Let's not forget the human cost of war and imperial ambitions.

"Some judges were shot on the spot by occupiers as soon as they were revealed to be members of the Ukrainian judiciary. Others were captured and to this day remain prisoners of the occupying forces. The fate of some other 🇺🇦 judges from the occupied territories remains unknown.".

"Staying was particularly dangerous for any and all representatives of Ukrainian authorities. Indeed, the Russian invaders specifically searched for and targeted Ukrainian judges as representatives of the Ukrainian state.".

"The judges whom we interviewed told us that they didn't understand when to evacuate, claiming that it was not communicated to them by the state. Given their position, they could not simply leave, as they feared possible criminal prosecution and had responsibilities to fulfill.".

"Court archives were often evacuated by personal transport that wasn’t fit for the job. Judges themselves often left in any way they could, making their own complicated decisions about when and how to leave. The price of a wrong decision was high".

I wrote a short piece on what happened to 🇺🇦 judges in the occupied territories. This is not the most pleasant story to read. However, I do believe that we have to talk about the mistakes that put people in harm's way. That way we'll have a chance to learn not to repeat them.

He mentions among others people burning alive in their houses. He also reportedly cut open pregnant women's bellies - as a form of enterteinment. Besides that, Zass had also one more hobby - collecting severed heads of killed Circassians.

This all happened before in Ichkeria. And everybody in the West decided to look away. They decided not-to-know, so that they could go on with their 'normal' lives. And so it wasn't stopped. And so it happens again. The worst part is: everybody will look away again.

If anyone thinks the beheading video is Ukrainian propaganda, too monstrous to be real, here’s an excerpt from Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya’s book on the Chechen War, where Russian soldiers speak with relish about dismembering the flesh of people from the Caucasus 1/2

There are those who did it and there are those who made it possible. Just a reminder that Ukraine was pressured to give up its missiles AFTER 📷 soldiers cut heads of people in Ichkeria and invaded Moldova.

And for those is the West. Yes, perpetrators are 🇷🇺 and they are fully responsible. But every time you look away, please remember how your governments pressured 🇺🇦 to give up its nuclear arms and destroy its long-range rockets.

Everyone outside of 🇺🇦 needs to see that video. Don't look away, see what the reality looks like for us here. And then use your rage to donate to 🇺🇦 Armed Forces and trusted volunteers, pressure your politicians to provide F-16 and ATACMS, come to Ukraine and volunteer yourself.

They desperately need us to help them procure 6 MSA Sordin Supreme Pro-X Neckband hearing protectors. The total cost of 6 is 1 461 💵. We already fundraised 541 USD, most of those money coming from Ukraine. (I corrected the twitt. The TOTAL cost is 1 461).

However, it is getting more and more difficult to fundraise among Ukrainians due to harsh economic conditions and the continuous never-ending needs among Ukrainian fighters. 😢.

Hey all, I have a favor to ask. I almost never ask here, on Twitter, but I‘ve no choice anymore.❗️We’re fundraising for soldiers from the 4th "Rubizh" Brigade. They’re preparing for the upcoming 🇺🇦 offensive now that well may be decisive.
