Proud grandfather, dad, and partner to
@ConnieSchultz
. Working for all Ohioans in the U.S. Senate. Sometimes disheveled. 🐤
Text OH to 44105 to join our fight.
As Secretary of State, I asked McDonald's to print a million voter registration forms on their tray liners.
To this day, if you go to the Board of Elections, you’ll find registration forms with ketchup and mustard stains.
We should be making it easier—not harder—to vote.
GM gained record tax breaks from the
@GOP
's tax scam—and chose not to invest that money in American workers.
As a result of that corporate greed, thousands of workers will soon be out of a job.
Disgraceful.
.
@TimRyan
, congratulations on your victory. Tim will spend every day between now and November listening to Ohioans and working to show them that he'll be on their side.
I look forward to fighting alongside him for the people who make our state work.
The choice ahead of Ohio is clear: Bernie Moreno has spent his career and campaign putting himself first, and would do the same if elected.
I’ll always work for Ohio.
ENDORSEMENT ALERT: Today, I’m thrilled to endorse my friend
@TimRyan
in Ohio’s U.S. Senate race. He understands that all work has dignity, and has fought harder than anyone to make sure Ohioans get a fair shot.
By rejecting Issue 1, Ohioans rejected special interests and demanded that democracy remain where it belongs — in the hands of voters, not the rich and powerful.
That is what has always guided me. I am proud to stand with Ohioans in this fight.
All of my opponents would overrule Ohioans by supporting a national abortion ban in the Senate.
While they work to ban abortion, I will continue fighting for and standing with the people of Ohio.
First, I want to say thank you. Thank you for your support as I ran for re-election in Ohio, and thank you for your support as we traveled the country on the Dignity of Work tour.
I will keep fighting for all workers across the country. And I will do everything I can to elect a Democratic President and a Democratic Senate in 2020. The best place for me to make that fight is in the United States Senate.
Believe me, we will fight.
Very saddened by this loss. Luke Perry was not only a talented actor—but a warm, kind person who made his home state proud. My thoughts are with his friends, family, and loved ones.
I met Luke Perry in ‘06 - he came home to Ohio to campaign for Sherrod Brown (Sherrod’s father, a Mansfield doctor, delivered Luke).
Luke did events across Ohio. We offered a driver, but his high school buddy drove him in a beat up car. Zero ego.
I’m very sorry for his family.
I represent the great swing state of Ohio in the U.S. Senate. And too often I see pundits and national Democrats act like we have to choose between fighting for our progressive values or winning elections. That’s a false choice. The electability myth is a myth. - SB
When I was Secretary of State, we set up voter registration sites in high schools, food banks, in the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. I even asked McDonald's to print voter registration forms on their tray liners.
Bottom line: We should be making it easier—not harder—to vote.
A new poll shows
@JoeBiden
and Trump are TIED in Ohio.
Every vote matters in battlegrounds like Ohio. If you haven’t yet, register, request your ballot, and make sure to return it in time to be counted. And then talk to your friends and family about making a plan to vote, too.
It’s one thing for you to talk about the dignity of work, but to be willing to lose your voice to sound like me while doing it, that shows real commitment
@CoryBooker
. 😉
Fighting for the dignity of work is how we should govern and it’s how we win in 2020.
When my father was dying at the age of 89, Luke called my dad about a week before he passed, and said, "I'm thinking about you, Doc," and wished him well. Luke was so kind and considerate of others. He will be very missed.
Lawmakers in Ohio just passed a bill that will make it harder for Ohioans to have a voice on the issues that affect their lives.
It's wrong, it's a clear power grab, and we know what the end goal is — to go around voters and pass unpopular policies like a total abortion ban.
There are 1 million+ government contract workers who deserve back pay for the 35 days of the
#TrumpShutdown
. Passing legislation to get these workers their paychecks is the right thing to do.
Retweet to help this message get to
@realDonaldTrump
.
Whether you punch a clock or swipe a badge, earn a salary, or make tips—your work has dignity.
Whether you’re raising children or caring for an aging parent—your work has dignity.
Regardless of your race or gender; no matter where you live in the country—your work has dignity.
It's hard for many people to find time on a busy Tuesday in November to get to the polls—and it's even harder if you’re working full-time, raising kids, taking care of an aging parent or relying on public transportation.
Election day should be a national holiday.
Thank you for a wonderful 20 years,
@ConnieSchultz
.
Three daughters, a son, a daughter-in-law, three sons-in-law, eight grandchildren — and of course Franklin and Walter.
As we sat on the back porch watching the eclipse together, I thought about how blessed we are.
When you love this country, you fight for the people who make it work.
And today, the hardworking women and men of Ohio voted to continue our fight together. Thank you.
Seven of the 10 fastest-growing occupations in the U.S. do not even pay enough to afford a modest, one-bedroom apartment.
That's appalling.
We need to raise wages and improve access to affordable housing.
Let's be clear about what's happening: Through their tax scam, President Trump and the
@GOP
gave a 50% off coupon to companies that move jobs overseas. And American workers are suffering the consequences.
Congratulations on your victory,
@nanwhaley
. Nan represents the change Ohioans need in our state, and will work to to build an Ohio where all workers – not just the wealthy and well-connected – can get ahead.
But if you can’t afford a starter home, and you need to drive Uber at night just to make a rent, that’s not a problem with your generation.
It’s a problem with our economy.
Mitch McConnell’s super PAC just made an $83M ad buy in Ohio — their largest buy in any state ever. We are his biggest target this cycle because he knows we can win.
We can’t let him buy Ohio’s Senate seat.
News:
@Senate_Fund
, the GOP super PAC aligned with Mitch McConnell, and its ally American Crossroads are reserving nearly $83M of TV airtime this fall in Ohio to target Sen Sherrod Brown (D)
There are 800,000 American workers not getting paid right now because of President Trump's shutdown and many more not getting raises they earned because of his pay cuts.
This is an extreme betrayal to American workers.
.
@Emma4Change
is exactly right: "You might not be a big fan of politics, but you can still participate. All you need to do is vote for people you believe will work on these issues.”
Actually the dignity of work is about busting myths like this one.
Truth is people are working harder and producing more—but wages haven’t kept up. Their hard work is making corporations rich. Workers have earned a raise & dignity of work is achieved by making sure they get it.
True dignity of work isn’t achieved by just using government to command that low-paying jobs get more pay & benefits. It is achieved by having policies that promote the creation of private sector jobs where the workers increased productivity results in higher wages & benefits.
I wear a canary pin instead of the official Senate pin to keep me focused on workers.
You know the story. Mineworkers took canaries into the mines to warn them of poisonous gasses. Back in those days, they didn’t have a union strong enough or a government that cared enough to…
Stranger - “Hi Sherrod, how are you?”

Me - “want to see a video of Franklin?”
We saw how Trump built a political brand questioning Obama’s legitimacy and birthplace.
We know Trump committed housing discrimination.
We see how he is dividing our country and deepening wounds.
Trump is a racist. There is no question about that.
.
@RealDonaldTrump
doesn’t respect the dignity of work, and neither do Republicans in Congress.
They block minimum wage hikes.
They refuse to negotiate for lower drug prices.
They stopped millions from getting the overtime pay they’ve earned.
That's why we fight back.
The dignity of work means being able to afford prescription drugs when you need them. It means being able to get an education without a lifetime of debt. It means being paid a living wage and the overtime you’ve earned.
That's what I'm fighting for every day.
What President Trump said: "We never again will sacrifice Ohio jobs and those in other states to enrich other countries.”
What he did: rush through a tax scam that gives a 50% off coupon to companies that ship jobs overseas.
Don't just listen to what he says—watch what he does.
Too many Americans don’t have a union to protect them. They don’t even have paid sick days—let alone a paid one-week vacation.
Their hard work isn't paying off.
We have to change that. Because if you love this country, you fight for the people who make it work.
One of the most tired tropes in the media today has to be that millennials don’t work as hard as past generations.
They’ve been blamed for killing everything from the marriage to mayonnaise.
Thank you to the hundreds of people who braved record low temperatures in Cleveland—and joined us virtually from around the country—to stand up for the dignity of work.
I'm so inspired by your activism as we hit the road for the Dignity of Work tour. Onward.
Dignity of work means hard work should pay off for everyone, no matter who you are or what kind of work you do.
Over the next few months, I'll be traveling around the country to hear from the people who make this country work. Join us:
Millions of Americans don't have healthcare. Thousands of lives are lost each year to acts of gun violence. We could be suffering the consequences of climate change for generations.
And yet Trump is declaring a national emergency over his inability to fulfill a campaign promise.
That’s why I’m confident it will continue to be a focus for Democrats in 2020. And I plan on making sure that happens I will keep calling out Donald Trump and his phony populism.
Bernie Moreno has spent his career and campaign putting himself first and would do the same if elected. Elections come down to whose side you’re on. I’ll always work for Ohio — and I don’t plan to stop anytime soon.
Today, I marched for my grandchildren. I marched for students and educators. I marched for gun violence survivors and their families. I marched for those whose lives were taken too soon.
Thank you to the courageous young adults leading this movement. We need you.
John and I have a lot in common. We're both from Ohio, have wives who are more popular on social media...and we're both known for our voices. 😄
Great to have you back in Ohio,
@johnlegend
!
Thank you, Iowa, for welcoming
@ConnieSchultz
and me. You opened up your homes and communities to us—and shared your lives, stories, and visions for this country. We are so grateful.
See you soon.
Issue One officially goes into effect today – meaning abortion access is now protected in the Ohio Constitution.
Reminder: All of my opponents would overrule the will of Ohioans by supporting a national ban on abortion.
Ohio GOP Senate candidate Mike Gibbons on a Crain’s Cleveland Business podcast:
“The top 20% of earners in the U.S. pay 82% of federal income tax — and, you do the math, and 45% to 50% don’t pay any income tax… The middle class is not really paying any kind of a fair share.”
You may have seen news coverage confirming that, for the first time in my career, I am considering running for President.
There is a lot of work to do to help families across Ohio and this nation. I take that fight and that responsibility very seriously.
We rely on teachers to shape the next generation, but low wages & out-of-pocket costs make it incredibly difficult for them to get by without often picking up second & even third jobs.
We need to level the playing field for our educators & everyone working hard.
We always honor
#LaborDay
with the
#DignityofWork
. That's ALL workers -- whether you punch a clock, or swipe a badge, or work for tips, or raise children, or take care of an aging parent. Happy Labor Day to all our essential workers because you're all essential. - SB
Americans trying to get a college degree shouldn't be punished with a lifetime of debt.
We need to make college an available opportunity to everyone willing to work hard, not just those lucky enough to be able to attend without loans.
