@ShakinthatChalk I know a school that did this. No prep time in the 4 days. Staff died on their arses. They cancelled it after 1 year.

It won’t be a 4 day week. It will be 4 days of non stop teaching with an admin day. It won’t be sustainable.
🚨BREAKING: Teachers want a 4 day week. Should they receive it? I say ‘No, get your backsides into work and teach the kids. It’s called your job, and your holidays are already massively generous’.

Is anyone going to listen? @UKLabour
@ShakinthatChalk I’m in my 5th year, and always insisted I wouldn’t become part of “that” statistic. I won’t, but I’m acutely aware that trying to do this for 35 more years is an impossible task. 5 more, maybe 10. I don’t know.

Why does everyone force introverts to leave their comfort zone, but no one forces extroverts to shut up for a while? Why???

And there was I hoping @UKLabour would fix this. A welfare state on an industrial scale.
For people bad mouthing those on benefits… 40% of the staff I personally work with claim IN WORK benefits!!! Let that sink in!! The person you could be asking to give you CPR instructions till the ambulance arrives does not …..

ChatGTP is really intriguing. I described my character, appearance etc and asked for men’s fragrance ideas for a range of contexts. The resulting recommendations with reasoning was quite something. And now I have half a dozen 1ml samples on the way 😂

If you have to rubbish other people to promote your product, then maybe your product isn’t that great.

This is deeply concerning and I’ve seen the same thing many times now. An existence that isn’t sustainable for years on end. It never used to be like this. Teaching has always been an intense job but it used to be sustainable. Things have to change.
I love my job and I love my career but the more I look at it, the less likely it feels that I can do this until I retire. I have been off poorly for a week which has been tough in itself, but jumping back onto a train tomorrow that moves at 1000mph feels almost impossible.

And if I were that boy I was then at school today, I would definitely not be thriving. I suspect I would be doing far worse. I think our education system is broken.

Why would I say this? Am I not a success story given I probably come from the same background as those lads? Did I not thrive at school? No. I didn’t. I had a hard as nails maths teacher who looking back saved me. By and large I endured school.

For many children forced to endure a daily environment they can’t thrive in, is it any wonder their behaviour, motivation and ultimately results suffer? What are we doing to the 75% of our children not highly academic?

Now it may be that one or two of those lads are top set and eying up a university pathway. But I’d be confident to say most aren’t. They must go through their entire childhood feeling inadequate academically. At least they can be proud at their sporting prowess/achievement.

And it struck me how narrow and elitist our education system is now. I loathe to use the word elitist as those boys *are* elite, just not in the way our education system celebrates. Our system considers the top grades A*/level 9 as “1st place” or “top performing”

Thought for the day. 🧵 🪡 Portsmouth FC under 15/16 squad did a lap of the pitch prior to kick off on Saturday. They all looked like the boys in lower sets usually difficult to motivate or manage behaviour. I say this after decades in the secondary school classroom.
