Pleasure to co-author this article with @UniSouthPacific colleague Seone. We advocate for a common Pacific passport to ease regional travel & give real meaning to often-cited ideals like regional integration, Vuvale, Pacific solidarity & the Blue Pacific narrative.
“Visa-free travel could be the precursor to a Pacific Citizen Passport — a bold step toward enhancing regional mobility, economic integration and cultural exchange,” say Seone Lolesio and @ShailendraBSing from USP.

Let’s be real: Ministers, PSs, statutory CEOs earn big—by Pacific standards, even close to Aust/NZ with perks like housing, travel, duty-free. Yet low-paid workers told to tighten belts. Is their labour subsidising the top? How’s that not exploitation?

Kudos DialogueFiji for their 3rd forum on the budget. While no budget satisfies all, it’s commendable that consultations happened before & after its tabling—showing @bimanprasad commitment to transparency. Glad to support the process by moderating panel discussion at the event.

Honored to speak at a workshop on media’s role in SocialCohesion, alongside Hon. Sashi Kiran, UN’s Heike Alefsen & journo Felix Chaudhary. I welcomed national recognition of social cohesion, backed by PM @slrabuka. It’s one of Fiji’s most consequential modern-era initiatives.

Our blog reflects on the Pacific media’s critical role as a pillar of democracy, highlights the fragility of this pillar and the threats it faces, examines how Aust aid is making a difference and identifies key gaps in intervention efforts to strengthen media resilience:.
"To date, Pacific journalism schools have received little attention from the Australian aid program," say @AHAWatson & @ShailendraBSing. "A second option for Australia would be to consider direct support to media businesses." @RSF_en @mediafreedom.

In an in-depth interview, @bimanprasad outlines Fiji’s 2050 vision to become a high-income nation—with vocational training at its core. He ties this to Pacific-wide goals of visa-free travel, labour mobility & deeper integration. A must-listen from a bold regional voice.

What an ambassador for the Pacific! .Jai Opetaia is a truly inspirational figure. (By the way, in Hindi, “JAI” means “victory”, “triumph”, or “glory” — how fitting.). #WarriorOfThePacific

Great sentiment but it’s time for action. Example, the once-thriving Suva Lagoon is heavily polluted by sewage, industrial waste & stormwater runoff. Studies found high levels of E. coli, heavy metals & other contaminants, making vast areas a dead zone. Reality vs. rhetoric.

Public funding of media is not confined to national borders. In the Pacific it’s tied to geopolitics. Understanding this dynamic is important for Pacific as the focus of Big Power Contest with media vulnerable to influence via training & development.

Incredible, undocumented, rare alien abduction story out of Fiji —sounds totally authentic. No reason for the father to invent it; chances are, he didn’t even know what aliens were. #FijiUFO #AlienAbductionFiji #AlienAbduction. #UFOtwitter. #TikTok
