If the suspect pleads guilty and requests a Plea, under Section 104 of Criminal Procedure Act, PG can agree to reduce any penalty by half of whats prescribed in the law. Penalty for drug trafficking is 25 years. This sentence can be reduced to 12.5 years plus fines.

Not sure what prompted this advisory but compared to most countries (probably including the US), Maldives is one of the safest and most peaceful places to be.
