Somnath destroyed in 1026. Rebuilt in 1030. Attacked by Alauddin Khalji in 1298. Repaired by king of Junagarh. Desecrated by Ahmad Shah of Gujarat. Converted into mosque by Aurangzeb in 1701. Rebuilt by Ahilya Bai in 1783. Munshi spearheaded new temple after independence.
