I recommend people share their new mastodon handles to encourage others to find them on there.

I'm sure as a network effect emerges, the software will just keep improving, too.

I don't take the decision to switch away from Twitter lightly. However, the time seems ripe. I hope a network effect emerges for Mastodon. That seems like the right model for a social network: ad free, open source, decentralized.

Modern society is completely numb to the unspeakable tragedy of traffic accidents and deaths. People should not be dying just to travel from one location to another.

Pseudoscience requires constant vigilance. It is a shame when celebrities lack the scientific literacy to see through such scams, or worse cynically participate in the scam by broadcasting it to more potential victims.

In light of the Kim Kardashian SEC news, it's also worthwhile to point out that the show featured Daniel Amen. One need only read his Wikipedia article to learn that he has been *condemned* by scientists and doctors.

Greg Abbott and Ken Paxton: best friends. The governor's Attorney General faces 3 felony counts of securities fraud after defrauding fellow Republicans. Corruption at the highest levels of Abbott's regime.

The attorney general of Texas defrauded fellow Republicans. If convicted of felony securities fraud, he faces up to 99 years in prison. The AG has been under indictment for 7 years.

I guess a hurricane is a problem that even republicans can't deny or spin away. I'm surprised DeSantis's response isn't "what hurricane?" or "I'm for the jobs the hurricane will create." Odd for him to suddenly have a hold on reality.

Ron DeSantis is not qualified to lead during a hurricane. But really rich to see him try to act non-partisan and competent all of a sudden to distract from all those people he kidnapped.

6. Leadership and coordination. Command center outside of the disaster area able to communicate with and support hospitals in the disaster area. Hospitals must know how and whom to call for help. 7. Know beforehand where each patient can be evacuated.

Takeaways from 5 Days At Memorial (hopefully Tampa area takes note):. 1. Electrical system / backup electrical system (generators) must be well above flood levels. No element of the circuitry should be below flood levels. 2. Need emergency supply lines of food, water, new drs.

It's not surprising that Greg Abbott has one of the most corrupt Attorneys General in the country, but it would be nice if voters cared and had some sense of shame for their state.

I would be embarrassed for my state if my AG were under indictment for securities fraud.

Texans: are you happy that your attorney general has been indicted on securities fraud? Seems pretty disqualifying for your top law enforcement officer.

For example, prohibition and eugenics were both progressive movements. Really, we should move past "conservative" and "liberal" to careful analysis of the pros and cons of policy, and an honest assessment of real vs perceived harms.

Still, I would expect liberals to have a "graveyard" of "bad" changes which have been relegated to the dustbin of history, so conservatives may not get credit for having opposed them.

Liberals: I would be careful to claim that liberals are always on the right side of history and conservatives on the wrong side. Based on their respective positions of change vs. status quo, I would expect conservatives to look bad for their opposition to every "good" change.
