I am shocked, saddened & alarmed that the Supreme Court now says that you can be detained simply because of your race, your occupation, or the language you speak. I am hopeful that local law enforcement will not use this as a license to harass or detain our friends and neighbors.

It was a privilege to serve with John Burton. His passion for helping people, including undeserved communities, changed millions of lives and inspired countless legislators, including me. Rest in power, John.

The crisis in our addiction treatment system is real, and lives are at stake. Recovery is possible, but only when care is ethical, safe, and truly centered on the needs of patients. https://t.co/hKKM50J15d

Twenty outstanding high schoolers from SD34 joined us in Sacramento for the culmination of their Young Senators program. After developing mock bills throughout the year, they experienced the legislative process firsthand during their visit. Always a highlight of the year!

Appreciate Gov. Newsom for showing leadership in the absence of federal action. What RFK Jr. is doing to the nation’s health is dangerous. Luckily, in California, we’re helping families make the right choices to protect their children and public health.
NEWS — Roughly 24 hours after the launch of the “West Coast Health Alliance,” Hawaii is joining California, Oregon, and Washington in this shared commitment to safeguard public health. Together, these states will provide evidence-based immunization guidance rooted in safety,

Great to reconnect with colleagues from my early days in the Legislature. Hard to believe it’s been 35 years since the Class of 1990 stepped into the Capitol! Read more here:

Great job by CalMatters highlighting the areas where we can improve CARE Court. I authored SB 27 to address some of these challenges and make sure people get the support they need. Read more here:

Gov. Gavin Newsom’s CARE Court was supposed to help the sickest people living on California’s streets. We took a look at data from around the state. Here’s what we found.

It’s unfortunate that many cities and counties currently cannot pursue public financing if they want to, but we can change that by working across party lines to restore local control and give voters the power to decide. Read more about SB 42 here: https://t.co/mm5tbncypu

The bill would allow voters to decide, in November 2026, whether to overturn or retain the ban on public campaign financing.

SB 42, a bill to end the ban on public financing of elections just passed appropriations committee! This is MAJOR for getting dark money out of politics. Thank you to @SenatorUmberg for leading on this critical democracy bill.

I authored SB42 to give voters a voice and get money out of our elections. Many of our cities and counties can’t pursue public financing elections, but we can change that by working to restore local control and give voters the power to decide. @BenAllenCA @alex_lee @SenJoshBecker

“No one imagines that when they suffer an unimaginable tragedy, justice could be out of reach because of a long-forgotten and completely unrelated subscription - that’s exactly why we need SB 82.” Read more here: https://t.co/fhguERntGc

Critics say the bill is vague. In fact, it’s the opposite—it eliminates vagueness.

#TeamUmberg was proud to celebrate a Garden Grove staple’s ribbon cutting of their new location! Sabroso Mexican Kichen is a family-owned business that sits right in the heart of the city and we’re proud to see their success! Thank you @GGChamber for this excellent celebration!

I was proud to honor a legal pioneer in not just OC but in California as a whole. Justice Kathleen O’Leary has received numerous awards and accolades for her contributions and legal expertise. Her presence will be deeply missed, and I wish her all the best in private practice.

There is currently a Tsunami Advisory in effect for the West Coast. Tune into local coverage and the NWS for up to date information, and heed all warnings + advisory information with care and seriousness.
A Tsunami Advisory has been issued, replacing the Tsunami Watch. The tsunami should arrive near 1AM tonight. If you are located in the coastal area, move off the beach & out of harbors & marinas. Do not go to the coast to watch. Be alert to instructions from local EM officials.
