Today, Governor Pritzker signed seven of my bills into law! These laws address a wide range of needs - they expand rights for children and families in the foster care and adoption systems, help local restaurants, work toward a safer DuSable Lake Shore Drive, and more.

Today, SB 1507 was signed into law! This legislation was based on significant community feedback and data regarding crashes on DuSable Lake Shore Drive. Now, we are paving the way for real safety solutions on DLSD that will save lives.

When it comes to pedestrian and cyclist safety, our community can't afford to wait. A new law I sponsored streamlines communication between IDOT and CDOT so we can solve pedestrian safety issues faster, and make navigating our city safer for everyone.

This morning, the 2027 All-Star Game was officially announced by the commissioner of the MLB. It was great to be joined at Wrigley for this announcement by our Governor, fellow electeds, and community leaders. We're ready for the world to visit our great city and iconic ballpark.

Today, Governor Pritzker signed a bill I sponsored, SB 1560, that makes Illinois the first state in the nation with universal mental health screening for kids in grades 3-12. No matter what Washington throws our way, we will always fight for Illinois children and families.

The AIDS Garden sits on the hallowed site of the Belmont rocks, a historic place that became a safe space where the LGBTQ+ community gathered. Today, Leader Greg Harris was honored at the AIDS Garden for his legacy as we continue our celebration of Pride.

No right is guaranteed, and I remain committed to ensuring Illinois believes women, protects women, and is ready to welcome those in need of care.

Today, I'm thinking of the women who are needlessly endangered or have lost their lives because they could not access care. We continue to fight in honor of them.

Illinois is now a beacon for those seeking reproductive healthcare, but this status is hard-fought and must be maintained. I'm proud to have passed HB40 in 2017, which removed a dangerous "trigger provision" that would have outlawed abortion in Illinois if Roe was overturned.

I can't believe it's been three years since my staff and I sat in silence, trying to put our anger into words as we processed the overturning of Roe v. Wade. In these years, our world has changed, but the necessity of safe, accessible reproductive healthcare has not changed.

Transit systems have funding through the end of the calendar year. The Governor, Speaker and Senate President have acknowledged this needs to be handled quickly. We know how important this is, and there’s time to get it right. I'm committed to getting this across the finish line.

The bill creates a foundation to increase safety, reliability, and accessibility on transit throughout Chicagoland for decades to come. In the meantime, the buses and trains must be able to serve those who rely on them daily.

The Senate passed a transit bill (HB 3438) that makes transformative reforms to the structure, governance, and function of our transit system. This was a Herculean task led by Senator Ram Villivalam.
