There’s no shame in taking a break from job hunting. Do something else for a day and start again tomorrow.

You can have AI write your CV, but it’s only going to be as good as the information you give it.

Take a little time to do some research on salaries for your industry and profession. Have an idea of what you can expect to be paid for doing a particular job. In that way if you are offered a lower number, you can react accordingly.

Now is a really good time to update your CV and LinkedIn profile, but obviously most people will leave it until January.

You should regularly assess where you are with your job. Have you learnt anything new recently, taken on any additional responsibilities, done something noteworthy?

Thinking that my New Year’s resolution will be zero tolerance to out of date CVs (it’s really bugging me at the moment).

I’ll say it again (and again), proofread your CV! Just had someone say ‘my friend did my CV so I didn’t check it’. None (not one) of the dates were correct.

If a recruiter calls you and you are at work and can’t talk, just say you can’t talk and offer to call back later. Don’t try and talk and make no sense!

Far too much nonsense CV writing advice online. Stop worrying about whether you should use ‘responsible for’ or ‘managed’ and more time on showing how good your are at your job.

Always ask what the salary range is upfront. Don’t go through the process only to find out they won’t pay you enough.

You can get someone to update your CV for very little money, but how are they improving it?

People panicking about AI taking their job. If AI can do your job, then it frees you to do something more worthwhile, doesn’t it?

Candidate listed a reference on her CV and said I could call him. Turned out he had emigrated 2 years ago and she knew!

If you can’t think of a single person who can give you a reference that is very concerning from a recruitment point of view.

Told a candidate before an interview that it was an in office job, no chance of work from home. Guess what her first question was when the interviewer asked if she had any questions……

Filling your CV full of key words won’t help you get a job.
