As a Chinese scholar, I’m shocked to see that the #NeurIPS2024 speaker showed this racist and inappropriate slide. This incident underscores the critical importance of promoting intercultural competence, not only in machines but, perhaps more importantly, among humans.
Mitigating racial bias from LLMs is a lot easier than removing it from humans! . Can’t believe this happened at the best AI conference @NeurIPSConf . We have ethical reviews for authors, but missed it for invited speakers? 😡
