JUST IN: Two former Chicago White Sox employees are charged for scheming with a ticket broker to fraudulently sell thousands of tickets to baseball games, costing the Sox roughly $1 million, the feds say. Story to come.

Singer R. Kelly has been arrested in Chicago and charged in a 13-count indictment returned in the Northern District of Illinois, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office here.
The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals just became the latest to weigh in on Gov. Pritzker's stay-at-home order, denying an injunction in a religious challenge and finding "the executive order does not discriminate against religious activities." Judges Easterbrook, Kanne and Hamilton.
JUST IN: A federal arson charge has been filed against Timothy O'Donnell, alleging he set fire to a Chicago Police vehicle Saturday in the 200 block of North State while wearing a Joker mask.
Louis Capriotti, 45, of Chicago Heights has been charged with transmitting a threat. He is quoted in a complaint as saying "we will kill any motherfucking Democrat that steps on the motherfucking lawn."

ComEd has been charged in federal court for a bribery scheme involving payoffs to "Public Official A" in a case that involves a deferred prosecution agreement and a $200 million fine.
JUST IN: A federal judge in Chicago has DENIED a motion seeking a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction against Illinois' new assault-weapons ban.
Remember Rod Blagojevich's 2021 lawsuit challenging the prohibition against him from running for office?
U.S. District Judge Steven Seeger just tossed it, citing Dr. Seuss: "The time has come. The time is now. Just Go. Go. GO!"
Specifically, it mentions a "Minor 6," who met Kelly in 1997 or 1998 when the minor was 14 or 15 years old, who he allegedly enticed to engage in sexual activity "for which any person can be charged with a criminal offense, namely, aggravated criminal sexual abuse."

JUST IN: FBI Chicago is asking for help identifying this person in connection with an assault on a federal officer during the 1/6/21 U.S. Capitol breach. It's alleged he used wasp spray to attack the officer, and and he's likely living in the Chicago area.
NEW: Lavdim Memisovski, who assessed property values and reviewed property tax appeals for the Cook County Assessor's Office, has been charged with conspiring to accept home improvements, jewelry, sports tickets and other items in exchange for reducing assessed values.
In another voicemail, Capriotti allegedly said a member was mistaken if they believed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were "going to walk into that fucking White House."

Chicago Ald. Carrie Austin and her chief of staff, Chester Wilson, face bribery charges in a federal indictment returned today. Austin is also charged with lying to the FBI.

A spokeswoman for the Maricopa County Attorney's Office tells me by email the apparent dismissal of charges against Tony La Russa is a "formality" because they were filed in the wrong court. They will be re-filed in a different justice court. "The charges are not being dropped."

JUST IN: Federal charges have been filed against Matthew Lee Rupert related to the looting in Chicago. The charge was filed in Minnesota, but the complaint says Rupert came to Chicago and is heard on a video saying "let's start a riot" and "I'm going to start doing some damage."

indictment is in. Looks like it includes nine counts of enticing a minor, three counts of child pornography and one count of obstruction of justice.
During a February 2020 interview, FBI agents met with Capriotti and played the recorded messages for him. They said he confirmed it was his voice and verified "that he had never served in the military (despite his claims)."
The feds say that, "in almost every instance," the alleged voicemails from Capriotti included profanity and derogatory remarks about race, religion, politics and physical appearances. He "often screamed while leaving the messages."

JUST IN: A verdict has been reached in the federal trial of four former political power players accused of conspiring over nearly a decade to bribe then-Illinois House Speaker Michael J. Madigan.
White Sox ticket sellers James Costello and William O'Neil have been charged along with broker Bruce Lee. Lee allegedly earned $868,369 by selling 34,876 tickets he obtained from Costello and O'Neil during the 2016 to 2019 seasons.
JUST IN: In a late filing tonight, federal prosecutors allege former Ald. Edward Vrdolyak received more than $12M since 2000 from Illinois' tobacco settlement two decades ago "even though he did no work to benefit" Illinois.
Prosecutors in DuPage and Kane counties say they have asked the Illinois Supreme Court for an order regarding the SAFE-T Act "to maintain consistent pretrial procedures," so defendants in different jurisdictions aren't "subject to different treatment":

An order posted on the Illinois Supreme Court website says that "the effective date of the Pretrial Fairness Act … is stayed" while AG Kwame Raoul appeals this week's order from a Kankakee County judge regarding the SAFE-T Act.
Notably, this also appears to remove "Minor 2," who met Kelly in 1997 when she was 17, according to the first indictment. So there are still only five victims here.
The feds say they recovered the Joker mask from a bedroom in O'Donnell's apartment and placed him under arrest. Today, they say O'Donnell admitted he was the person wearing the Joker mask in the photos.
Charged in connection with the murder of "FBG Duck" are Charles "C Murda" Liggins, Kenneth "Kenny" Roberson, Tacarlos "Los" Offerd, Christopher "C Thang" Thomas and Marcus "Muwop" Smart.

Special Prosecutor Dan Webb has announced charges against Jussie Smollett, who now faces a six-count indictment alleging he made four separate false reports to the Chicago Police Department claiming to be the victim of a hate crime.
JUST IN: The feds have made a pair of local arrests in connection with the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol breach. John A. Schubert Jr. and his wife, Amy Schubert, are set to appear in court this afternoon. They are from Crest Hill.
UPDATE: Judge Kendall tells the courtroom a well-intentioned juror had brought a bag of treats, and gave the dog "the entire bag."
"I didn't know this was going on," Kendall said.
NEW: A woman accused by the feds of running a high-end brothel on Chicago's West Side objects to giving prosecutors names of ex-clients she wishes to contact — noting they "hold positions of prestige in the community, including in law enforcement and government."

Judge gives Chicago White Sox manager Tony La Russa one day in jail, commuted to home detention, as well as a fine of $1,383 and 20 hours community service.
Lee faces 11 counts of wire fraud and two counts of money laundering. Costello faces one count of wire fraud, and O'Neil is charged with lying to the FBI.
