Maybe it's not as bad as the initial reports make it sound. But there is a long history of major companies going so far as to even burn priceless artifacts from their existence. In the current year there are so many better ways to handle "unwanted" material.

Was this some collaborative business decision to clear up space pending a move? A sign of moving on from a storied past? A bad CEO personally shoveling rare brushables into an incinerator? It's hard to say, but one man's trash can quite literally be a whole community's treasure.

Yes you have the rabid collector type which will buy up a bunch of merchandise and keep it in good condition. You also have people backing up official and fan works, even writing scripts to scrape websites for content and discussions. It's a huge effort to cover this phenomenon.

One of the few good things about having an adult fanbase from the start is that there are people that are willing and able to collect and archive whatever physical and digital stuff that they can their hands on. That care is sometimes lost on companies that originate franchises.
Finding out that the current CEO of Hasbro threw out the ENTIRE archive of toys (given to them by ex-employees for preservation) is so rage inducing some of them being 1 of 1 or rare older toys. Ponies, Transformers… gone… history gone… all bc corporate greed
