Last night, the Museum welcomed NYC Dept. of Cultural Affairs @CommishCumbo, @nycdistrict1 CM Christopher Marte, District 6 CM @galeabrewer, tribal leaders from the Ramapo-Munsee, and more to the #RibbonCutting of A.A. Thomson & Co. and the inaugural #Exhibition “Maritime City.”

#OnThisDay in 1968, the lightship #Ambrose arrived at the Seaport Museum! The first in the Museum’s fleet of historic ships, she was donated by the @USCG and affectionately referred to as a “stubby red hull” in a South Street Reporter article chronicling her arrival in New York.

The #lightship LV-87/WAL-512, known as Ambrose, served as a guiding light for large ships entering Lower New York Bay from 1908 to 1932. Her scale ship model with original yellow-colored hull is the Museum's August #ObjectOfTheMonth and is on view in the exhibition #MaritimeCity!
