Alex Robertson and Marvel Jem Roth are two to watch (and LISTEN for,) America. Brilliant, kind, both very serious about the future (theirs and ours) and both *real* musicians. Sail ahead you two.

This year at NYO-USA, things are bigger than ever. @CarnegieHall is hosting amazing young musicians from 40 countries. Yesterday we had the most amazing Play-In with @GustavoDudamel at the @JavitsCenter. FIFTEEN ROWS of first violins!

What a joy to celebrate with them and so many others at the American Academy of Arts and Letters Ceremonial last week. And look, it’s kiddos in New York!

“Simple Machines” is dedicated to two generous tent-poles of composition and new music, two dear mentors, David Dzubay and @AugustaReadT, who just happen to be conductor and director of the Grossman Ensemble.

A ferocious band and a genuinely wonderful bunch of people. Getting to scribble and workshop “Simple Machines” for and with them was difficult and seriously rewarding. Expect more from us soon, but it’s a delight to share our recent premiere from the @LoganUChicago.

One of the truest joys of my time here in Chicago has been getting the chance to spend a lot of time with the Grossman Ensemble.

As far as I’m concerned, Earth Day is every day. We mourn what’s already lost while seeking ever-deeper cooperation and real, sustainable solutions. Humanity’s greatest challenge provides us with a chance to live better and to do better. @Boosey

Also pictured at this dinner are David Dzubay and @AugustaReadT, to both of whom I dedicate “Simple Machines”. Two of the most steadfast supporters of composers and US music. The pretty one with the mustache in the back — well his identity is a complete mystery and secret. 🤐
