Shohei Ohtani’s performance was epic. But let’s not forget what Rick Wise did: a no hitter vs. lineup of Hall of Famers, two homers, and battling the flu.
inquirer.com
Ohtani hit three homers on Friday night and struck out 10 as the Dodgers swept the Brewers to reach the World Series. Wise did something similar in June of 1971 at Riverfront Stadium.

https://t.co/r95uONyIt6 Dave Dombrowski on Nick Castellanos’ future with the Phillies: ‘We’ll see what happens.’ Plus, other #Phillies notes, @PhillyInquirer ⬇️⬇️

The outfielder ceased playing every day in a season in which he openly criticized manager Rob Thomson. He has one year left on his contract and might be ripe to be traded.

What Dave Dombrowski and Rob Thomson had to say about the Phillies' coaching staff, and what they're looking for in their new bench coach: https://t.co/8nKIfMevBV

Mike Calitri will move to the role of major league field coordinator. The Phillies will look outside the organization for a new bench coach.

Dombrowski also said the #Phillies will discuss adding another year to Rob Thomson’s contract, which runs through 2026.
It was Dombrowski’s idea to add the field coordinator position to Thomson’s staff (several teams, notably the Dodgers, have it). Thomson said the new bench coach likely will have major league managerial experience.

https://t.co/quunp0Kx9H The #Phillies have a fascinating offseason ahead. Breaking down the contract status of each player, and asking three (of the many) questions facing John Middleton and Dave Dombrowski. From @PhillyInquirer ⬇️⬇️

There will be pressure to improve a roster that figures to undergo more changes this winter than in any of the previous three. Here are their three most pressing questions.

https://t.co/akDHApb0PP Weekend baseball reading from @PhillyInquirer: What about Rob? Players 'love Topper,' who has led #Phillies to four consecutive playoff appearances. But history shows replacing a manager is an easier way to change course than a roster overhaul. ⬇️⬇️
inquirer.com
There are only so many changes the Phillies can make to the roster with $170 million committed to eight players and key free agents they’d like back. Could Thomson be the 2025 Danny Ozark?

Season over. Era over? https://t.co/dRtzkVL9Ag —“Just a horse-(bleep) throw,” Orion Kerkering said, as teammates consoled him. @ByDavidMurphy sets the scene in the clubhouse:

Should they try to bring back each of their big free agents? Is it time to get younger? Is Rob Thomson the right manager? It’s all up for discussion.

#Phillies-Dodgers Game 4 coverage from @PhillyInquirer: —It came down to an errant throw in the ninth inning. @lochlahn on how it got to that point: https://t.co/UewTpdr4z3 —Big hitters fizzle. Phillies fail. Same story, writes @inkstainedretch:

Kerkering lost the grip on a soft grounder back to the mound with the bases loaded in the 11th inning and sent it over J.T. Realmuto’s head at home to score the winning run.

Strikeout (Ohtani), flyout (Betts), strikeout (Hernandez) for Luzardo on 11 pitches. And now it's the Dodgers' turn to fire their best lefty relief bullet. Alex Vesia is on to face Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper, and Alec Bohm. https://t.co/kNRnph8may
Jesús Luzardo, the #Phillies' scheduled Game 5 starter, will pitch the 10th inning of Game 4. Due to bat for the Dodgers: Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Teoscar Hernandez, and if anyone reaches base, Freddie Freeman.
